July’s OwlCrate theme is Good vs Evil and in a new twist this month they actually sent out different boxes. You either got a Good box or and Evil box and you didn’t know until you opened it up. Both boxes got the same book but the extras were for your side. Owl Crate is a monthly subscription of books and bookish items box. Each OwlCrate contains one new Young Adult novel, as well as 3-5 other bookish items all matched to a monthly theme.
First look and I couldn’t tell which side I got.
I got Evil and I’m so excited. I would have been happy with either one but I always like to pretend I’m the bad girl so this is fun. The back of the information card has brief information about each item and a few notes about the theme.
Everything in the July OwlCrate.
This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab ($10.36) – This story sounds just like me. My favorite tv shows lend towards Buffy and Supernatural so any book with monsters in it is good in my mind. I love good romance with some supernatural twists thrown in. I also see that Victoria writes some adult fantasy books and I might have to check those out to since I am over the age to be only in the YA genre of story.
There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from acclaimed author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books, This Savage Song is a must-have for fans of Holly Black, Maggie Stiefvater, and Laini Taylor.
Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives. In This Savage Song, Victoria Schwab creates a gritty, seething metropolis, one worthy of being compared to Gotham and to the four versions of London in her critically acclaimed fantasy for adults, A Darker Shade of Magic. Her heroes will face monsters intent on destroying them from every side—including the monsters within.
It also came with a note from the authors and a signature card.
Jane’s Tiny Things The Queen of Hearts Magnetic Bookmark (I don’t see this one on her site but others go for $4.00) As the info card says the Queen of Hearts is one of the best villains to ever exist and I totally agree. If you don’t use this one right away it’ll be off with your head.
Drop And Give Me Nerdy Am I not Merciful Sticker (Created just for Owlcrate)- This is from Illuminate by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff which is a book I’ve not heard of but Owlcrate says that Aidan is one of the darkest and deadliest villains they’ve come across recently. That sounds like a book I need to read.
YA cover coloring book: This is so fun. It is a fun little coloring book of different YA book covers. I can’t wait to work on it and relax.
Just a couple of the coloring pages in the book.
Harry Potter Draco Malfoy Pop! Vinyl Figure ($9.93) I’ve said this before but we love POP figures at my house and we do not have this one. Harry Potter is one of those series that we listen to in the car and both of my boys loved it and we will watch the movies whenever they are on so they were just as excited to get him as I was. He is already in our collection.
Vector Engraving Death Star Necklace (I don’t see this one on their site but others go for $16.00) – Oh WOW this is perfect for the Evil box. We have gotten items from Vector Engraving in the box before and I always love them but this one is just perfect. I’m in a family of boys so they even think this one is cool. I’m sure to be the cool mom when I walk around with this on.
This was another fantastic month for OwlCrate. I love the ideal of doing a Good vs Evil box and having some variety in them. I’m so excited to have gotten the Evil box and I love all my goodies. The books that come are all new releases and not any that I’ve heard of before which is amazing. This one is so perfect for me it is going to jump to the top of my to read pile actually it might not even make it to the pile and I’m thinking I’ll leave it right next to my chair so I can grab it once I finish my current book.
Next month’s theme is Fast Times at YA High. Doesn’t that just sound amazeballs? Yes talking about high school I’m going to go back to using high school words. I have so many ideas when I read that title and I am old enough to get the movie reference in it. I’m sure the book will be just as good as the movie. If the title isn’t enough each box will contain a piece of jewelry inspired by Eleanor & Park. I love getting fandom type jewelry items in my box and next months is already looking like a great one!
