Doki Doki is a monthly Kawaii subscription box from Japan Crate. Every month you’ll receive super cute Japanese items – accessories, stationery, plushies, and other adorable Japanese goodies.
The branding for this box is really super cute! Each crate comes with a manga-style booklet to help you figure out what each item is (that means it’s bound on the right side instead of the left!).
The middle of the booklet contains all the information about the items.
There’s a little comic and a contest too.
Everything in the July Box! Such cuteness! The theme this month was a SUMMER FESTIVAL theme.
Sunhoseki Japan Character Handkerchief: This little washcloth is adorable and features Hoppe-Chan as well as Doki Doki exclusive characters Omo & Take plus Chakkun. In Japan and other Asian countries paper products aren’t always available, so you carry your own washcloth. I really like this idea and am saving these for my kids lunches!
Sunhoseki Japan Character Paper Fan: So adorable. I loved paper fans when I was a little girl to decorate my room. My 7 year old’s got as big as saucers over this Hoppe-Chan & friends fan!
Sunhoseki Japan Tattoo Stickers: This is an extreme amount of temporary tattoos – all licensed from Sunhoseki. I *love* the metallic Hoppe-Chan and those itty bitties are perfect for little ones without pierced ears, or just to make a fun design. Don’t get me wrong – this box is great for adult kawaii fans – but also for little kids who love kawaii goodness!
Bonus Gachapon Ice Cream Keychain: Ice cream charm! It’s more fun if it’s in a plastic egg.
Disney Japan Tsum Tsum “Wink” Blind Box: Yay! A mini vinyl stacker!
We got Sully!
Monthly Hoppe-Chan: I love this Hoppe-Chan – she’s perfect for summer with those big heart sunglasses, which I have suddenly determined I need. Seriously, where can I buy a pair? Why do boxes not send heart sunglasses? Because, need.
Gudetama Kitchen Clip: The world’s laziest egg is getting the job done!
Gudetama has a magnet to stick to the fridge!
And the cutest little egg-buns you ever saw!
Omamuri: This little pouch amulet is so sweet! First, it’s a Sunhoseki design – Hoppe-Chan & Friends exclusive to the box! Second it has a bonus Fuku Kaeru fortune frog to ensure safe travels.
The design pays homage to the Shinto roots of the omamori, to bring you good luck and happiness. This is the back. I placed our frog in the pouch and my daughter will attach the charm to her backpack!
Sunhoseki Japan Summer Hair Elastic: Yum Yum – kawaii watermelon fun for hair!
Rilakkuma Towel: This is a long thin towel – and happens to be perfect for the hand towel rings in the bathroom! We like using a long towel so the children can easily reach it. Bonus – we love Rilakkuma!
Tenugui: Before terry towels the Japanese used thin cotton like this as an actual towel. I love this for a banner and it would make an excellent decorative item. Or you could use it as a headband (fits summer festival theme perfectly), gift wrap, whatever you can dream up!
Doki Doki Exclusive Plushie: Subscribers received either Kiko (the one we got) – a fish that looks like an orange, or Wawa, a lemon that looks like a fish. I wish we had received Wawa because he lost his glasses and is a sourpuss without them – only because my daughter forgets to wear hers and it would be a good reminder for her!
I love the direction this subscription is taking with their Sunhoseki partnership! I think it’s super cute and fun, and I think the exclusive items are great. I would like to see non-charm items though, just because I feel like they aren’t as useful as some of the other items. I also like the stationery items in the box – they get used up so you don’t have too many things sitting around! I was excited to see that next month’s theme is Back to School (good timing with not waiting until September!).
