3b, which stands for Beauty Beyond Borders, is an Asian cosmetics subscription.  For just $12 per month, you’ll receive a collection of 4-5 deluxe samples that are new or popular in Asia but hard to get your hands on.  Sample products range from go-to brands such as Lioele, Etude House and Skinfood to high-end premium brands like SK-II, Kanebo, and Sulwhasoo.  Between the 8th and 10th of each month, you’ll receive notification that your box has shipped. Also, find tips and more information on key ingredients through 3b’s social pages.

All of my goodies from the June 3b bag.June 3bAnd here I thought I was getting a personalized card, but 3b meant the summer season.  LOL!  The information card contains a brief description of the products and directions for use.  This is helpful if you are not fluent in the product’s native language.

purpletale 5 Steps to Lovely Skin ($7.99):  This contains your K-beauty skin care needs for a day in one convenient package.  The pack contains cleanser, toner, moisturizers, and a sheet mask.  Think this will go in my suitcase for vacation – it’ll be nice after a day in the sun.  This can be used by all skin types.

Milky Dress Premium Brightener (?):  I’ve got at least a week’s worth of this cream for sure!  Use this under your BB cream or foundation to help lighten/brighten skin tone for up to 10 hours.

mirai Clinical Body Spritzer ($14.00):  Here’s your chance to feel like an Oscar nominee.  These were in the swag bags given out at this year’s ceremony.  Now, if only they could package up one of the actors and send him to me…  This pen-sized spray features Japanese persimmon extract to eliminate body odors (this includes nonenal odor or “old people smell” – this is really noted on the info page).  It also contains green tea and astaxanthin to extend the effectiveness of the persimmon extract.  I was really excited to try this, as I have stopped using commercial antiperspirants.  This did keep me dry, but it had to be reapplied during the day which is similar to the deodorants I use.  Also, the scent is very light and dissipates quickly.

Skinfood Black Sugar Serum – light (?):  I couldn’t find the volume of this bottle to determine the value.  This toning serum uses black sugar and Cheongju (a traditional Korean wine) to brighten and moisturize skin.  KoreaDepart.com had the most informative description of this that I could find.  Click here to read.

It’s Skin Todak Todak Pack – Nutrition ($2.07):  This wash off mask contains manuka honey and coconut to nourish skin.  This gel mask is not sticky and has a cooling effect on the skin.  The pack contains enough for 2 uses, so store in an airtight container between uses.

The products that I could find values for came to $22.  This is well over the $12 cost for the 3b Box.  If you factor in the Skinfood toner and Milky Dress cream packets, I’d estimate the value to be nearly $30.   I did like that the items were safe for all skin types, so I didn’t have to gift anything.  This month’s box had a strong facial focus, and I would have liked to see a few more hair or body care items.  The variety of brands that 3b includes in their boxes is nice, and I have been introduced to some new ones.  What did you think of this month’s assortment?  Share a comment below with your thoughts.

On a Side Note:  Before trying any Asian cosmetics subscription, expect that most information on the package will be in the native language.  That said, more and more brands are including directions/ingredients in English, and information can also be found in English on the majority of brands’ websites (you may have to choose a brand’s global or US site).  Secondly, a large number of products focus on brightening or whitening the skin.  As a person of color, I have not seen my skin color change.  Instead, I’ve experienced that my skin tone gets evened out after prolonged use.  However, your results may be different.  And lastly, many products contain ingredients which are animal-derived, so these may not be an option if you are vegan.  You can also check out cosDNA.com to see if the ingredients for the product are listed there.
