My first look in.  I think the idea of this box is great.  There are so many new dads who are feel like they are alone and clueless, and this box is like a care package that reminds them that there are others who understand the struggle.

Close up of the note that greets you.  I would definitely suggest watching Papa Bear Box’s youTube video for hints with the box items.  There were really good tips for new dads.

First look at the products.

Everything in the Papa Bear Box!  I got this box for my brother who is learning how to parent with his first child, my 8 month old nephew.  There are quite a bit of useful items in here that I know my brother will reach for.

il Morso Coffee and Tea Bars ($1.50 each):  All the benefits of your daily cup of coffee (or tea) in a 2-bite bar.  These are a way for dads to get their caffeine fix without drinking a pot of coffee.  Great for early starts/late nights or just a pick-me-up.  The box contained an assortment of  Matcha Green Tea, Coffee & Cream, Mocha, and Americano.  Michael, my brother, liked the Matcha bar but thought the Mocha had an overwhelmingly strong, bitter flavor.

Imperial Classic Pomade ($22.00):  “Our industrial strength CLASSIC POMADE is America’s strongest holding water-based pomade. With an even and smooth application, the CLASSIC POMADE also allows you to adjust the hold strength depending on the amount of water in your hair.”  Michael keeps his hair cut very close, but he likes pomades to keep the look clean.  This came with a free comb.

The People’s Soap Beer Soap ($3.97):  These are handmade in small batches and contain organic oats for mildness and slight exfoliation.  The bars contain several moisturizing oils – Shea Butter, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Organic Jojoba, Argan Oil, and Vitamin E.  These bars are a teaser according to the Papa Bear team, and the next box will have a full-sized version.  The scent is mild, and the bar has a good lather.

F’lint Lint Roller plus Refill ($7.99 + $3.00):  Flint is reusable, recyclable and refillable. Flint lint paper is protected for reuse, and the Flint core is 100% recycled.  Each roll contains 30 sheets.  This was Michael’s favorite item in the box, mostly because it was a gadget (boys and their toys, LOL).  Seriously, my brother is fashion conscious, and the baby is wreaking havoc on his ability to maintain a crisp look.  This roller will at least combat the lint and crumbs on his clothing.

Green Goo Baby Balm ($7.95):  This formula contains organic oils infused with Chamomile Flowers and Organic Calendula to soothe baby’s sensitive skin. These flowers naturally yield anti-yeast, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties.   The balm is also good for protecting dad’s hands against the effects of repeated washing.

aden + anais Classic Swaddles – dreamer ($12.49):  Papa Bear box featured the aden + anais label as a spoiler on their Facebook page.  Made from 100% cotton muslin, this swaddling cloth offers versatility for the dad on the go.  Use it to swaddle your baby, as a stroller cover, burp cloth, or changing area cover.  The muslin is pre-washed so it’s super soft from the start and stays that way wash after wash. It measures 47″ x 47″.

Papa Bear Box subscriptions are re-billed monthly, unless you purchase a one-time gift, and you can cancel at any time.  Single boxes start at $64.95, but this amount drops as low as $54.95 with extended plans (plus $5.99 flat rate shipping).  An additional $5 shipping charge per Papa Bear Box is applied outside of the contiguous US.  Sales tax will be applied for those in AZ, CT, NV, NY, and OH.

The total value of this box was around $63, slightly less than the cost of a single box.  I thought the curation was well thought out, and the response from my brother was positive.  This would make a nice gift for not only new dads, but even for some dads with older children who could benefit from a little bit of support (remind them that they’re not alone in the woods).  I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Papa Bear Box.  Leave a comment below to share.
