Game Box Monthly is a subscription box that comes monthly with a board game for you and your family to play.  We love games at our house and now that my boys are getting older we can start playing some that are a little more entertaining for us parents too.

The subscription comes in a plain box with the GameBox sticker so once I opened it up I saw the game and the extra goodie.

Desert Island ($22.77) – This is a sequel game to Lifeboat. I’ve never played either game but this one sounds fun.  The side of the game box says for 13+ but Amazon says for 8+ and I’m pretty sure my 8 year old could play.  With summer right around the cornet I plan to pull this out one day for some fun.

Washed ashore on a forgotten island with your fellow castaways, you must try to scrape together enough food to survive while avoiding illness, wild boars and deadly tsunami. Hopefully you can keep your secret love alive and help your secret hate find their proper fate.

Desert Island plays in about an hour. Each turn, players take an action and play a fate card that makes an event more likely to happen as well as a target more likely for the event. Actions include foraging for food, scavenging for valuables washed up ashore, and lighting the signal fire. Of course, it might be easier to forage for food in your neighbor’s stockpile. Conflicts are resolved by comparing total size on each side of a fight. A random card is added to each side’s total.

At the end of the turn, look to see if a boat was sighted and the signal fire lit. If the players aren’t yet rescued, Fate will deal a blow to somebody, then everybody must either eat food or take a wound.

Secret love and hate determines victory points.

Box band-Its (range from $3.99 – $5.49 depending on size) – I will admit I had no idea what these were when I opened them up but now that I’ve looked into them I’m in love. I think this is a great idea.  They are  bands that go around game boxes to keep them secure and closed when moving.  We got an assortment of bands in our box and my boys say they are going to put them on some games tomorrow.

Doesn’t this look great?  I know we have multiple games here that the boxes don’t stay together so this will help them out.

This is a really fun subscription box and we can’t wait to play our new game.  It will be a great way to discover some new games and to mix up our playing so we don’t get stuck playing the same game over and over again.
