Doki Doki is a monthly Kawaii subscription box from Japan Crate. Every month you’ll receive super cute Japanese items – accessories, stationery, plushies, and other adorable Japanese goodies.
The branding for this box is really super cute! Each crate comes with a manga-style booklet to help you figure out what each item is (that means it’s bound on the right side instead of the left!).
The middle of the booklet contains all the information about the items.
There’s a little comic and a contest too.
The booklet also features a short interview with the cover illustrator of the month.
Everything in the June Box! Such cuteness! The theme this month was a HARAJUKU theme.
Sunhoseki Hoppe-Chan Key Chain: I totally fell in love with Hoppe-Chan the first time Doki Doki sent one out, and I love that there’s a Hoppe-Chan item in every box!
So kawaii! I love the bow and her little cheeks! I am hoping next month for a boy Hoppe-Chan!
Peanuts Snoopy Qee Blind Box ($6.99) A Peanuts item was one of the spoilers for this month!
Here are all the possible variations!
We got this colorful Snoopy design with a rarity of 1:15. Peanuts does nothing for me, but the kids liked him!
Sunhoseki Chakkun Washcloth: NOMNOM DONUTS. This is an adorable kawaii washcloth! I’m not sure I get the whole zipper theme but I don’t need to! He’s actually supposed to be a magical pouch that prevents your accessories from getting lost. I wish Chakkun was real. Of course in many Asian countries paper products aren’t as ubiquitous as they are here and you carry your own reusable versions. This kawaii towel is an awesome way to stay green.
Take Omo Plushie – Take: This is an interesting creature! He has star eyes…
A bandaid mouth, and some sort of button protrusion.
I discovered that Take is a young, foolhardy boy with a dream of becoming Harajuku’s #1 fashion icon. I also discovered that Take is upside down.
Take is much more of a pleasant creature in the correct orientation. He’s a cute puppy dog! Aren’t you glad I finally figured him out?!
Hoppe-Chan Plushie: This plushie is pretty big, and it will be a great centerpiece to our now-burgeoning Hoppe-Chan collection!
She has sweet pink cheeks, a sequined bow, and also has a ball chain loop to hang her up!
Mix & Match Accessories Set: Every carate came with 2 scrunchies that double as bracelets, a zipper pracelet, and a set of pins. I only got one pin but Pandanda is cute. I love how this is totally 80s but I still actually like it.
Zippers and neon! I know I’ve said a million times you can’t bring the 80s back, but maybe Japan is just better at it than we are. I think yes.
Mayo Puri Sticker Sheet & Zipper Pull: YESSSS MAYO IS SO CUTE NOW! Puri Puri is the sound of something squishy and this is perfect. I didn’t exactly know what this was when I first saw it, but I knew it looked familiar. It looks just like the little squeeze bottle of mayo. I love Japanese mayo. It’s so good. I love Mayo Puri with the ketchup riding on top!
Sunhoseki Eyeball Hair Bow: This is a totally bizarre hair decoration. As you can see it has a giant eyeball in the center stop a pink leopard print vinyl bow.
You can just slide it right on top of any hairstyle you have going. The information booklet says it will help you channel your inner Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and are iconomic of the Harajuku Decora style – which I think is maybe pink goth-like? I found this Wikipedia article on the different styles helpful, but a page with photos all of them together would be better!
Hatsune Miku Lanyard: Japan’s favorite digital songstress, Miku-Chan is displayed on the lanyard tag and one side of the lanyard strap – the other side has all the Vocaloid singers! I love the little musical note charm!
I thought this was another great month for Doki Doki crate! The curation was good and it had some nice licensed and exclusive items. It was too hard for me to choose a favorite – two Hoppe-Chans, the Mayo Puri, and the Take puppy were all too cute! My daughter readily laid claim to that hairbow!
