Crafty Book Box is a monthly subscription for kids that features a book and a craft to accompany it. Especially designed to target kids from 3-8 years of age, each box arrives with a newly published children’s book and all the craft supplies children will need to complete their portion of the related craft. As children complete the coordinating craft, their imaginations will soar and their connection to the book will deepen. By encouraging reading and crafting, this box fosters quality family time together.

IMG_5953The basic monthly subscription costs $32.99 and includes a book selected by an experienced children’s literature librarian and craft supplies for two children. Crafts for additional children may be added on to the basic subscription. One additional craft set is $4.99 and 2 are $6.99.

A lovely introduction to the enclosed book arrives with each shipment, including excerpts from reviews.

The introductory letter concludes with suggestions for further reading. We love both “Corduroy” and “The Velveteen Rabbit” (along with other books by Mo Willems and Salina Yoon), so I’m eager to locate the other books that the curator recommends.

My kids and I both love this book! Published in May of this year, “Sam and Jump” ($11.93) is a delightful story of a boy who loves his stuffed animal, Jump. Sam takes Jump everywhere, even to the beach. After a fun-filled day playing in the sand and water with a new friend, Sam accidentally leaves Jump behind. By the time he returns to the beach, Jump is gone! Luckily, Sam’s new friend returns to play with Jump in hand. Among the many things I love about this book, it shows a diversity of characters often lacking in children’s literature.

The directions for completing accompanying craft were clear and easy to read. My son enjoyed looking at the large pictures for guidance.

This was my daughter’s first craft experience, and she thought it was great! She enjoyed separating the cotton balls so they appeared more like batting.

She also had fun inspecting her craft at each step of the way.

While I helped my daughter, my husband worked with my son. This was a great family activity!

As soon as I finished helping my daughter with her craft, she announced “I wan dat!” She spent a long time inspecting it before running off with it.

My son really liked his bunny as well. I wonder what adventures he’ll take his new toy on.

We loved this box! The book was top notch and the craft just made the box that much more special! While the cost of the box clearly exceeds the cost of the book and craft supplies, a lot of time and energy went into curating and developing this box. The experience the founder created was second to none, and for that I will be forever grateful. I think the cost is completely justified. We can’t wait to see what they send out next month!
