BetterU Box is a monthly subscription box that sends 6 to 10 sample and full sized health and wellness products with a focus on vegan, plant based, natural, and organic items for $30 a month.  These items may include health foods, supplements, motivational books, and spiritual items.  All products are carefully hand pickexd by BetterU Box’s co-founders Anna & Jessica. Their goal is to guide you “through your journey of a BetterMind, BetterBody and BetterSoul”. The subscription is available in 1, 3, or 6 month terms and auto-renews at the end of the term. It is currently only available in the US and shipping is included.

The theme for May’s box was “Love in a Launch Box”. The items were shipped in a sturdy box with shredded paper as a cushion.

I love it when companies include a product information card!

The flip side of the card explained the “Pay it Forward” principle. It must be hard for companies to come up with items that suit every person every time, so they ask you to ask the universe who might benefit from that item that you think is unsuitable for your lifestyle.

Everything in the box! I loved the colors of the items, pretty purples, blues, and greens. Now, on to the items!

Health Warrior Chia Protein Bar in Honey Almond ($2.00) This bar was very chewy and packed with superfood ingredients such as chia seeds, quinoa, and almond. Soy, dairy, and gluten free plus no GMO’s in this snack. Not vegan due to the presence of honey.

Essential Living Foods Organic Superfood Smoothie Mix ($2.00) Just blend this packet with 12 oz of your favorite milk (dairy or nut) and reap the benefits of hemp, goji, and acai along with 8 grams of protein. Organic, no GMO’s, and boosts immunity and heart-health. Vegan.

Oceano3 Omega 3 Krill Oil 1000mg ($31.95) Wow, this stuff is supposed to help the brain, body, and heart! Krill oil is easier for your body to absorb than fish oil and there isn’t any fishy aftertaste. I have been meaning to try omega 3 caps for the health benefits so this couldn’t have come at a better time! No GMO’s but obviously not vegan.

Seize the Day: Inspiring Words for the Journey Ahead by Robin Pickens  ($6.98 $6.28) As I leafed through this book I knew it would be perfect for my oldest daughter, who graduated two days after I received this box. Imagine my surprise when I read the following excerpt from the Barnes & Noble website:

Seize the Day is a joyful and delightfully inspiring book that celebrates a recent graduate or those who are ready to spread their wings and fly to the next part of their life. The journey from “here to there” is told in thoughtfully chosen words and accompanied by vividly colored illustrations.

Coincidence or divine intervention?

Inspiring quotes and beautiful illustrations make this a lovely gift.

Laughing Giraffe Organics Vanilla Snakaroons ($1.33) I received two of these soft mounds of coconutty goodness. They were so soft that I ended up spooning them out of the package rather than eating them like a cookie. Reminded me of eating sweetened shredded coconut out of the bag.

English Tea Shop Green Tea (54 cents) I love tea and this will make a welcome change from my usual English Breakfast blend. Organic and fairtrade certified and prepared using traditional Chinese methods.

Èccolo 4×6 Mini Lined Journal ($4?) I couldn’t find this product online but it can be used as a mini notebook or journal. It has lined pages and a gold embossed feather (or is it a leaf?) on the cover.

Rose Quartz Polished Stone ($1.28) I wasn’t sure how this was supposed to help or even how to use it so I Googled it. I found out that you can keep it on your body to help balance your heart chakra (one of the 7 main energy points of the body) by either placing it in your pocket or even your bra!

My Precious Scissors Om Necklace ($7?) I couldn’t find this exact item on Etsy but it has the symbol for Om and a purple bead on a purple waxed cord necklace with lobster clasp. Om is the word that can be said or chanted during meditation and the symbol for Om is used in several different religions. I have friends who are Hindu so I will pay it forward!

Overall I was really happy with this box because deep down I am a little bit of a modern hippie (I compost, I drive a small car, I recycle, I adopt pets from the Humane Society). My grandmother was new age before there was even a term for it and would host meditation sessions in her living room and would read my palms and the bumps on my head but I don’t think you need to be a hippie to enjoy this box. It was not vegan due to the presence of some animal derived products. I received 9 items and the retail value was around $57 which is almost double the price paid for the box! What do you think of this subscription? Do you have an inner hippie?
