Beautycon BFF Summer 2016 Subscription Box Review

Beautycon BFF is a quarterly beauty and lifestyle subscription box that is aimed at the teen and young adult market.

Each box features a different celebrity curator. This quarter YouTuber Kandee Johnson curated the box!

Haaaay!

The outer tissue paper is wrapped in plastic. I’ve never noticed it before but I was thankful for it this month – this box sat outside 3 days in the rain and none of the contents were damaged!

This box is packed full – Beautycon is a huge brand and definitely able to negotiate a box crammed with items.

The Edit by Seventeen – Coupon + Free Shipping code. This site isn’t active yet but you can sign up for notifications. This was the first item I pulled from the box and it totally gave me a heads up that this box seemed a little more focused on the target market (older teens and young women).

La Fresh Instant Cooling Body Soother Wipes ($0.69) and La Fresh Oil-Free Face Cleanser Wipes ($0.46) I love La Fresh’s on-the-go products. One was a pepperminty wipe and the other is a face cleanser!

Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil ($8.99) An ultra light cleansing oil perfect for getting rid of hard to remove waterproof makeup!

Benzac Acne Solution Blemish Clearing Hydrator ($6) This serum combines salicylic acid to help clear blemishes and sandalwood oil to soothe skin – and the price was WAY more palatable than a similar serum that showed up in my June Birchbox!

Garnier SkinActive Brightening & Smoothing Daily Moisturizer ($14.99) This moisturizer is lightweight and focuses on delivering antioxidants to your skin along with a tad bit of SPF in an oil-free formula.

Redken Fashion Waves 07 ($19.50) This is a GIANT bottle of Sea Salt Spray. I don’t know if I have ever seen any hair product this large, ever. It’s actually ludicrous.

Smashbox Brow Tech Shaping Powder ($25) Brow stuff is everywhere right now, so I guess they are making a comeback! This taupe powder was super easy to apply, and I’d expect nothing less from Smashbox!

There’s a soft tip applicator and you just brush it on. This is a fantastic brow product.

The brow stuff just swipes right on! Other swatches are for the next 2 items.

NYX Ombre Lip Duo ($12) This is just weird, but it was fun to try. The duo-ended pencil comes with a lip liner and lipstick and there are instructions on the back to achieve the ombré look. I got the really wild Peaches & Cream color.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil ($4.50) I received cashmere, which is a gorgeous golden color that applies creamy. This was a favorite!

Line lips, apply lipstick in center, and pat to blend.

Please excuse the cookie I ate in between doing my lips and taking the picture. Whoops! It kinda worked. I don’t think I’d wear this in public, but I’m about 20 years past the typical subscriber for this box. 

Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara ($11) One of the BEST mascaras, in a waterproof formula. This takes a little time to dry so I had to be careful with it, but I liked the results!

Cover FX Contour Brush ($38) A fantastic duo-sided contour brush! The bristles are fairly dense and it’s not the softest brush ever, but it’s good for contouring and strobing. I liked the little travel package too.

VersaSpa Face Moisturizing Gradual Tanner ($4.38) This algae-infused moisturizer is designed to give a natural gradual tan as well as blur fine lines!

Another amazing box value – about $146! Unlike the past several boxes this box seemed clearly focused on the young adult market, which is I think great for most subscribers! Lots of products for youthful skin and big hair, and a couple of ways to try out some new beauty trends without going broke! I find it interesting that a large percentage of the full-size items are drugstore brands – easily achievable and repurchasable without a lot of cash – with a few higher end brands mixed in.

FYI – everyone should know that this box has a really funny cancellation policy – you can only do it within the seven days after you receive your box (for annual members you can do it any time before it renews).  Especially important to know for a box that’s so curator specific – although there’s plenty in this box to make pretty much everyone happy because the total cost with shipping is only $36.
