Whimsy Mail and Putter Pails
is a Canadian subscription box aimed for tweens aged 8-12. Whimsy Mail is geared for girls, and Putter Pails is for boys. This is a review of the Whimsy Mail box, because I may be in my 30s but I’m young at heart. Whimsy Mail ships in a plain cardboard outer box and is packed with brightly coloured paper squiggles. So many squiggles.

Even though this is a box for tweens, it’s still really fun for grownups too!

This month’s box has a warning label for moms to keep out — May 8 is Mother’s Day, and the box arrived with enough time before the big day.

May’s box fell a bit short in the packing department.

The information sheet outlines everything included for the perfect breakfast in bed to spoil the mom in your life — whether it’s your own, a grandmother, or an aunt.

This tray is adorable with the leopard print pattern, but it arrived damaged/broken. The packaging normally included in Whimsy Mail (lots of paper squiggles) really wasn’t sufficient for this sort of fragile item. It could have used more bubble wrap on the bottom of the box and around it to keep it from bouncing around in the box, which is likely what happened.

Cinnamon Vanilla Pancake Mix: This was wrapped up tight in bubble wrap and arrived safely. I love making pancakes (though mine are normally gluten free!) so these will be fun when I actually have time to make a big breakfast.

Pancake Mold: This is so cute! I bet you could use this for eggs, too.

Canadian Maple Syrup: Don’t laugh at how tiny the bottle is — this stuff is as valuable as gold up here! This is pure 100% Canadian maple syrup from Toronto.

A menu is included, which I thought was pretty cute.

And a door hanger.

Aside from the broken tray (which can probably be mended with strong glue, but might not be as sturdy) this was pretty much Mother’s Day in a box! I always find Whimsy Mail hard to value because of how it’s mostly DIY projects and crafts, but I think it’s a creative box and the value would be there if that’s what you’re looking for. This is a really cute idea that would enable tweens to prepare a special Mom’s Day breakfast!

Hi April! Thanks so much for commenting. 🙂 It’s definitely a tricky item to try and protect because of the shape, and Canada Post isn’t always gentle with their boxes – it’s a miracle the glass didn’t break. Thanks again for such a fun box this month!
