UrthBox April 2016 review

The contents of Urthbox April 2016.

UrthBox April 2016

Neo Super Water Alkaline Water ($1.50) This water makes the following claims:

  • Alkaline, Electrolyte, Antioxidant Super Hydrator
  • 9.5pH Alkaline Helps Balance The Body’s pH and Boosts Immunity
  • Electrolytes and Increased Oxygen Hydrate The Body Up To 6x Faster
  • Antioxidants Help Protect and Revitalize Cells

I guess getting it in this box is a good way to test them out!

Ultima Replenisher Balanced Electrolyte Powder Lemonade ($0.99) You can doubleup on the electrolytes with the little lemonade packet – or just add them to regular water!

UrthBox April 2016 (3)

Mini Me’s Organic Rice Bites in Strawberry Yogurt Coating ($3.39) We’ve had these in another flavor and we were really wanting to try this one – so we were excited to get this item!

UrthBox April 2016 (4)

Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts Raw Shelled Hemp Seeds ($1.18)  These are shelled and ready-to-eat.  Hemp seeds contain complete protein, so the are the perfect crunchy topper for yogurt, or straight from the bag.

One Planet Morning Magic All Natural Granola ($1.67) This is a really fun granola, and is getting tucked in my daughter’s lunch box – it has bananas, pepitas, and chocolate covered sunflower seeds. This is a nice healthy treat!

UrthBox April 2016 (5)

Smarty Pants Women’s Complete Gummy Vitamins ($0.37)

Smarty Pants Men’s Complete Gummy Vitamins ($0.37)

We have had Smarty Pants a lot, I tried the women’s one and it was much more tart than I remembered. Anyways, a nice way to try it out and yay vitamins!

Voke Tab Vitalizes Dietary Supplement ($7) Made with natural caffeine from tea leaves, acerola cherry, and guarana berry seed, each tab has as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. I don’t really go for these types of items, I’d rather drink my caffeine!

UrthBox April 2016 (6)

Popchips – Barbeque Potato

Roasted Chickpeas – Sea Salt & Lime

The family is much bigger fans of these two items than I am, so I stuffed them in the snack drawer. My husband loves chickpea snacks and they seem like they’d be great with a beer. Now that I think about it, so would the BBQ!UrthBox April 2016 (7)

Paleo Ranch All Natural Peppered Kippered Beef ($2.02)

Paleo Ranch All Natural Maple Syrup Kippered Beef ($2.02)

I wasn’t really sure what to think about these! It turns out that they are chopped formed beef, sort of like jerky, but mooshed back together. I was surprised that they were pricey, because it seems like the chicken nugget of the beef jerky world.

UrthBox April 2016 (8)

The taste was like any other paleo meat bar. I tried the peppered, and saved the maple for later.UrthBox April 2016 (9)

Mediterra Sundried Tomato & Basil Savory Bar ($1.99) I gave this a try and it was just too sundried tomato-ey. It would be great in a different flavor – maybe curry?

SunRype Wildberry Fruit Strip: My kids are nuts about fruit strips, roll-ups, formed fruit anything, so this was a fun snack. Although I admit, I do like to pull these types of snacks apart too!

UrthBox April 2016 (10)

Mrs. Thinsters Cookie Thins: Is it terrible that this is my favorite item in the box? No, wait, I think the Strawberry dipped wafers were! In any case, these taste exactly like they sound – like crispy delicious chocolate chip cookies!

The April Urthbox was a pretty good box, but with some notable misses for me  – common box items like Smarty Pants & Hemp Hearts, weird water, and caffeine tabs. Oh and the savory bar. Otherwise I liked it. I have an annual subscription and we always end up eating/trying everything so I’m not terribly worked up about it, but I’m hoping for some more items with broad appeal next month.  The best value on this subscription is on a longer term.
