sci-fi block may 2016 review

Everything in my May 2016 Sci-Fi Block!

Star Wars Furry Chewbacca Can Cozy ($9.50) This is awesome! Everyone got the same Koozie and it’s just great. It’s furry and sports a neoprene sash!sci-fi block may 2016 IMG_9909 sci-fi block may 2016 IMG_9908

Funko ReAction Star Trek Spock Action Figure ($6.79) I squealed when seeing this one – it’s one of the best looking ReAction figures I’ve seen! It features Spock with his Tricorder carry bag. Like the same style figure in April’s Comic Block the plastic totally slipped right off the card. That’s ok, because I take my figures out so we can play with them, but not everyone would have been happy with that.

He’s fantastic! LLAP! I had to grab a really quick photo because my 5 year old was fascinated. (Note that these are toys for adults and there’s a warning on the package – my kids are supervised when they play with collectibles, etc!)

There weren’t any variations for this item, but I took the picture of the entire Series One collection anyways!sci-fi block may 2016 IMG_9910

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury – 60th Anniversary Edition ($9.52) I’m super excited to see a real classic in this subscription box – I think this box should have more variety via great sci-fi fiction (both undiscovered authors, classics, and I’m contractually required to say it in every review – please figure out a way to get Neal Stephenson in this box!). I am thrilled with the inclusion of this item.

If you haven’t read this book, please do.

If you have, this edition features a new intro from Neil Geiman, introspective essays from Bradbury, and critical essays from giants like Margaret Atwood (how great would she be in a box? Yes please!).

Futurama Art Print: Subscribers received either the blue or green version of this glossy print to “boldly take you where no man, woman, mutant, robot, alient, or weird space lobster has gone before.”

BB on Board Bumper Sticker: Now this is a bumper sticker I can get behind!sci-fi block may 2016 IMG_9915

Shirt Punch HHGTTG Shirt: Marvin’s Genuine People Personalities technology makes him all too human.

We have classic TV Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy..

and Alan Rickman as Marvin. Clearly the shirt takes after the more recent reimaginings of this total classic Sci-Fi book from Douglas Adams. I was a little surprised that it wasn’t a towel, but it’s been done before. The shirt was cool, but I would have been happy with a towel.

Star Wars Funko Wacky Wobblers – Kylo Ren ($4.27) I don’t know why these are priced so low, except maybe as a promotional strategy? We love Wacky Wobblers because they’re so big! Subscribers could have also received Rey, Phasma, or First order Stormtrooper.

The box explains who Kylo Ren is, if you weren’t sure.sci-fi block may 2016 IMG_9918

Looks fantastic, with a full bobble.sci-fi block may 2016 IMG_9920

The detail is great, all the way down to the texture on the cloak and details on the lightsaber!

FYI – All the Nerd Blocks are updating item information – if you have a current subscription, I suggest updating the information in your account!

This month was really great and fun! I loved the variety of universes, the number of items this month, and even though there were two filler-ish items (the print & bumper sticker), those were kind of just extras because with a book, 2 Funko products, a wild and furry koozie, and a t-shirt I would have been more than happy!
