We Are Onyx ONYXBOX May 2016 Subscription Box Review

OnyxBox from We Are Onyx delivers 5 deluxe-size or full size hair, skin, make up and lifestyle products curated for Women of Color from high-end brands from around the world for only $25 a month.

This box is packed really nicely! The card included tells a little about the theme of the box as well as how to connect via social media. Take a photo with your goodies and you could win a year long subscription.

My Skin Trx Essentials Cleansing Balm, normally retails for $16. This cleanser is amazing! I recently started reading about the benefits of using honey to treat acne because I’m 35 years old still getting regular break outs, this cleanser that has honey included has made me a believer. I have used this every morning and night since it came and my break outs looked better in one use and now they are no longer painful or red and have started to dissipate. The texture is odd, kind of like spreading oily  chap-stick across your face, but the end result is clean, refreshed skin that doesn’t require moisture. Even my daughter loves this product and it’s like pulling teeth to get her to wash her face.

Mirabella Lipstick in Fever (Red), retails for $22 (currently on sale for $10). This is the creme de la creme of lipstick, I will be replacing all of my lipstick with this brand. Red is my I feel like being anywhere but here signature color, this product is a dream. I wore more of this lipstick than my coffee mug and that alone was great. It goes on like lip balm, smooth and soft without the bleeding color.

Manna Kadar Beauty 3-in-1 in Fantasy ($19). This is a 3 in one product, blush, highlighter and eyeshadow and it’s easy to work with. I’m not a big blush person, nor do I truly understand highlighter so I used it as an eyeshadow. The product is light and velvet-like and really left my eyes with a healthy glow. I was more impressed with this after using it on my eyes than I was doing the swatches.

Rhassoul and Bentonite Clay Shampoo Bar by Bask and Bloom ($7). I could not get past the weirdness of washing my hair with a bar soap, so I used it as a facial cleanser in the shower. This soap boasts that it doesn’t strip moisture and it’s true. After using the soap on my face I didn’t have that super tight skin feel that begs for lotion, that was pretty awesome. I also liked the subtle smell. 

Curl Keep Total Control for Frizzy Hair ($2.17) was not my product. It was too thick and heavy and made my curls look more like waves. It also made my hair have a strange residue like dandruff.

Doux Drops Shine Therapy Elixir ($6.50/fluid ounce) retails for $26, smells amazing. I used it on wet hair and after it dried it wasn’t greasy and that scent stuck with me all day.

Onyx Box is a small box with extreme quality and bang – about $70 retail value! I was extremely happy with most of the products in this months box and I look forward to seeing what next month will bring.
