May 2016 Birchbox Man Subscription Box Review & Coupon

This month’s Birchbox Man celebrates the freedom that comes with sunnier weather.  Birchbox Man is a monthly grooming and lifestyle subscription for men. Through it, you’ll receive 3-4 sample items that are smaller versions of what you can order from the Birchbox site, plus a lifestyle item that is full-size. Boxes are $20 per month and you can earn points for reviewing the contents of each box you receive – and, since you can earn 110 points ($11 in the shop) for picking up a yearly subscription, this is a great deal.

The theme for May was “Time To Shine.” Also, the information card no longer gives the details on each item, but they are available on the Birchbox site. See your box at birchbox.com/mybox.  

Subscribers are given a sample choice opportunity via email/your account to choose a lifestyle item.  Here’s what I got for my May box.

Baxter of California Herbal Mint Toner ($1.80):  This toner is very thin and looks like soapy water, not a lotion — it’s to be applied by cotton ball (a make-up pad would work well, too) to cleanse, moisturize, and tone your face.  It leaves no residue and smells like calamine lotion infused with mint, licorice, and Vick’s Vapo-rub, a heavily herbal, but pleasant scent.

Hanz De Fuko Sponge Wax ($17.50 full size):  This high hold, matte finish wax combines the hold of a gel with the pliability of a pomade.  Made using natural plant extracts, lanolin oil, and beeswax, it has a smooth, waxy texture, but without any tackiness.  The light scent is reminiscent of lanolin and Shea butter.

Anthony New York Shave Cream ($3.14):  Pearlescent and very fresh, this light and slightly unctuous cream uses rosemary and eucalyptus as natural antiseptics.  Loaded with skin-fortifying vitamins, it also contains aloe vera, hops to relax the skin, and peppermint.  It lathers lightly directly on the skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth.  I love the scent right out of the tube — the botanicals and strong peppermint together smell like Aquafresh and Altoids.

Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash ($2.62):  This all-purpose wash cleans and protects using caffeine, menthol, citrus and chestnut extracts to give it an invigorating and bright feel and scent.   It actually left my skin with a light fragrance of leather and amber.

ICNY Sport Baseball Cap ($34.95):  This fashionable cap features a silver reflective patch on the front and a similarly reflective band on the back.  The highly retroreflective 3M material can be seen from up to 700 feet away, making your next low-light adventure a little safer.

The band can be loosened and tightened to adjust the fit, and it has a clip mechanism so you can clip your hat to something when not in use, or drape your sweet ponytail out the back with greater ease.

Birchbox is still one of the most sought after subscriptions because it combines great products with superb value.  This month’s box, with the lifestyle item included, had a value of about $45 or so!
