FoxyBox May 2016 box

Foxy Boxes is a monthly subscription box designed for today’s active modern woman. The subscription costs $29.99 per month, with discounts for a subscription plan, and each box contains healthy snacks, supplements, and fun items like apparel, workout DVDs, and more. There are 4 options – weight-loss, endurance, vegan, and gym-goer. I’m not certain of my version, but I think it’s the gym-goer box!

I think the name “FoxyBoxes” is very catchy and smart, and the pink confetti paper and pink fox made the box fun to open – like getting a present!  They did a good job of making a health and exercise related box seem a little less utilitarian and more fun.  There was a lot of stuff in this FoxyBox, and generally interesting content – a mix of workout focused items and snacks, clothing and laundry detergent! GTL anyone!?!

FoxyBox May 2016 review

Everything in my box!

FoxyBox May 2016 (1)

Also, it came with some promo description cards and coupons, which was nice.  It would make sense for many boxes to do this so you can get a discount when you actually go buy a product you liked.  Many don’t do this for aesthetic or other reasons, but I like to save money, so good for Foxy!

FoxyBox May 2016 (2)The Tea Spot SteepWare Steep & Go ($5.95):  Although tea isn’t my go to drink personally, the nice little combo cold brew bottle infuser and leaf tea looked enticing and indeed was tasty! Not only that but the cool tea infuser snaps onto the water bottles you already use! Very convenient and neat find.

The Tea Spot Cold Infusions Keep Fit Green Tea ($1.29):  The tea is made for use with the infuser, so it makes potent tea when steeped in cold water.  The green tea had a good flavor and is healthy alternative if you like your water with some flavor.

FoxyBox May 2016 (3)

Evlution Nutrition EVL BCAA Energy Fruit Punch ($5.83):  EVL is a pretty popular workout supplement brand.  It’s one of the biggest on bodybuilding.com, so I was surprised to see it in the mix, as the point of a box is usually to try something new.  We tend to stick with the same things we know, so I fortunately hadn’t tried it yet.  It turned out the BCAA energy was quite tasty, even enough to go order some on my own!  So, success for Foxy and EVL!

FoxyBox May 2016 (8)

Rawxies Chili Lime Crunch ($16.50):  I get that these crunchy, savory treats were gluten free and had pretty healthy stats on the back, but I have to say, they weren’t for me taste-wise.  I thought someone might like them to spice a salad or the like, but I really can’t imagine munching on these with a glass of red as the package suggests.

FoxyBox May 2016 (7)

Sleep aid and laundry detergent are peculiar items to include, but I can see how they fit in with the lifestyle aspect of the box.

Hex Performance Power+ Laundry Detergent ($0.71):  Of course, workout fanatics have to do a ton of laundry.   This brand purports to be good at targeting and removing stains and odors from sweat and bacteria, so its a good product for this audience.

BioTerra Herbs Sleep Z-Z-Z Vegetarian Capsules ($2.50):  Though exercise is generally conducive to sleep, many bodybuilders and sports enthusiasts taking a lot of supplements with stimulants have trouble sleeping.  I am a bit concerned randomly including a sleeping aid in a lifestyle or health oriented box, even if its herbal-based.  It’s NOT the same as including a protein bar, and should probably be restricted to boxes themed around restfulness where people are expecting this kind of item.

FoxyBox May 2016 (6)

AminoSculpt Anti-Aging Type 1 Collagen Peptides in Natural Mango Flavor ($2.38):  I hadn’t tried something like AminoSculpt before so now I know it exists – very interesting with 2 tablespoons at 6g carbs and 16g protein, and I like that it’s sweetened with stevia not sucralose!

Good2Go Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Protein Bar ($2.50):  The G2G protein bar was very tasty and filling – something I’d try again.  It has decent amount of protein and no preservatives or nasty stuff.

BHU Fit Vegan Protein Bar in Chocolate + Tart Cherry + Pistachio ($2.69):  Sadly, the Bhu Fit bars were not as yummy – they were a little dry for my taste.   They do have a moderate amount of protein and lots of fiber!

BHU Fit Vegan Protein Bar in Apple Chunk + Cinnamon + Nutmeg ($2.69):  I’m surprised they didn’t name this one “apple pie” or something more enticing.

BHU Fit Vegan Protein Bar in Peanut Butter + Chocolate Chip ($2.69):  This one has the classic PB and chocolate combo.  I didn’t love the BHU Fit bars, but they are vegan and have a pretty good nutritional profile, with low sugar.

FoxyBox May 2016 (9)

Fit & Lean PowerPak Pudding ($2):  The pudding didn’t appeal to me much, but everyone has different tastes.  I can see this being an attractive option for grabbing some easy protein, as it is pre-mixed, has a different texture than shakes or bars, and it has a fair amount of protein (15 grams) for a 100 calorie snack.  It was good to try something new!

These were interesting picks!   I like that they chose products I don’t see constantly.

FoxyBox May 2016 (5)

Justin’s Vanilla Almond Butter ($1.59):  Justin’s is a well known brand – it’s in Whole Foods and Safeway – but many may not know about their little packs of flavored almond butters. Both the maple and vanilla are delicious, as well as the chocolate hazelnut butter packs (not in the box but I love them).

Justin’s Maple Almond Butter ($1.59):  This is Justin’s favorite flavor, according to the company site.  The packs are great to haul along in a gym bag to have a quick snack. These weren’t a product discovery for me but they were a nice addition.

To me, this item made the box.  After all, it’s a “Foxy” box so I wanted some girly bling, if you will. And here it was! A peacock print headband good for yoga or daily wear perhaps. It’s a fun, bright print, and even matched the Foxy pink logo and confetti. Well played Mr. Fox. (or Ms. Fox!)

I enjoyed this box – some items were really tasty, and some not as much.  I look forward to trying new products in a subscription box, so I was glad to see that most items were things I hadn’t tried before, even if they are popular brands.  FoxyBoxes is an interesting combination box – it contains mostly high protein snacks, but it also has an occasional supplement and even a fashion or lifestyle item.
