Comic Bento is a monthly comic book subscription service that delivers graphic novels and comics each month. The books come from a multitude of different publishers and every month you’ll receive at least $60 in books.
Special care is given to each box. To make keep the books from jostling about, Comic Bento uses air cushions and has all books packed together in plastic with cardboard to keep everything straight.
Four books, all from different publishers. Comic Bento did well in bringing variety to their offering this month.
Comic Bento includes a 2-sided card that gives you some insight into the books they sent. They also give some backstory as to why they chose the books within the subscription box.
This month has the “Elementals” theme. Each book features characters that have some significance with some sort of element.
Book of Death – $14.99 – Valiant Comics. Written by Robert Venditti with art by Robert Gill and Doug Brathwaite. I’m a huge fan of Robert Venditti’s writing in DC Comics(most notably The Flash) and I look forward to reading this collection of books 1-4.
The Valiant heroes. This is how they lived. This is how they died. Now we know. The Book of the Geomancer has recorded it all. But only a young girl – the last in a line of enigmatic mystics who protect the the coming cataclysm to the dawn of the 41st century. Alone with her sworn protector, the Eternal Warrior – a soldier battle forged across five thousand years of combat – the duo must defy their allies to stop the Dark Age that now threatens to eclipse our world.
Surface Tension – $16.99 – Titan Comics. Created, written and art by Jay Gunn. This book has an extremely interesting look to it and has piqued my curiosity.
Rich in unforgettable characters, searingly vivid images and heartfelt emotion, this horrific and yet all-too-plausible story will lurk in your subconscious long after the final page!
The Four Points – $12.99 – Aspen Comics. This is a Comic Bento exclusive cover. The complete first volume is here with gorgeous artwork by Jordan Gunderson and written by Scott Lobdell.
From Aspen Comics and acclaimed writer Scott Lobdell, featuring artwork by Jordan Gunderson, John Ercek, and colors by Valentina Pinto, The Four Points vol. 1: Horsemen features the complete five issue mini-series, cover gallery, series concept art, and a whole lot more!
Fantastic Four: Season One – $24.99 – Marvel Comics. Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with excellent artwork from David Marquez. There is also a free digital copy so you can read on your portable electronic devices as well.
Make no mistake – scientific genius Reed Richards thinks big. And when he launches the world’s first privately funded rocket into space, he and his closest friends are in for the ride of their lives. Victims of a freak accident, Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm will find themselves forever changed – and inextricably linked. The will become a team – a family -of adventurers. But it’s their courage in cataclysmic battles with the Mole Man, the Sub-Mariner and more that will make them heroes!
Comic Bento is such an awesome value! All four of these books were packaged so well together and arrived in spectacular condition. As stated earlier, there is a theme but there’s also a ton of variety, and the theming of this box is pretty unique amongst comic subscriptions. I thought the curator’s notes really brought the theme together, and that made this box even more awesome!
