Bramble Box April 2016 box

Bramble Box is a monthly subscription box sending imaginative play kits to kids every month. You’ll get fun gender neutral play kits around a theme every month that will inspire your kids to creatively explore. Play, role play, and pretend play are all essential to achieving developmental milestones.  The kits arrive in a cutely decorated box with printed graphics of Bramble’s fox logo and images of some of the dress-up themes.

NEW: You can choose the themes of your first 6 boxes at checkout, or choose a “surprise me” theme! Each new subscriber will receive a Welcome Pack in their first box with a sticker book, crayons and glue.  Look out for a new sticker to collect in each month’s box.

Bramble Box always comes neatly wrapped in tissue.  I love Bramble Box fox — he’s so calm and contemplative.

An instruction sheet is included in the box — actually, it is included on the box, as it is lightly attached to the interior of the lid.  It was nice to be able to stand the sheet up for viewing by propping the box lid, and the sheet can be removed easily and cleanly.

Part of the project includes making your own marching band hat!

This was good cutting practice, but I did help out when fatigue set in.Bramble Box April 2016 (1)

Look how much he loves his marching band hat — he was also super excited that it looked a little like a policeman’s cap, so I know this hat will be doing double duty.

What’s a band without colorful drums? Here’s everything you’ll need to decorate your own drums.

After attaching the foam “skin” with double-sided tape, my son set to work decorating with ribbon and foam stickers.

Our finished drum!  The Artistic Director of this project, pictured, opted for a simple and elegant turtle pattern.

You can complete your (one-man) band with this jingle stick!  The construction is very simple, and no additional fasteners are needed.  You can up the complexity simply by painting the stick and going all out with your decorations.

For this piece, our AD opted for a swirled marker montage.

Here he’s applying the same technique to the maracas.  I love the look of placid concentration on his face!

Our finished products!  The tambourine was already assembled when it arrived, and it is of very durable construction.  It has a slight varnish, so ribbons are probably the best bet for embellishment.  For the other pieces, we felt like having a less-mess day and used stickers and markers instead of paint.

The instruments are all simple percussion instruments, so they can be effectively operated by even small children.  If you are a master like this guy, you can double up!

There are even a couple of extras included in this box — a book complete with a CD!

The book has a full rendition of the “Ants Go Marching” song, as well as a CD with the musical version of the song.  Who knew there were actual lyrics to this song !?!

The book was filled with illustrations of cute ants, and it made a great primer to work on concepts of multiplication and squares.

Our kids really enjoy Bramble Box.  The crafts are simple in concept, but they allow boundless creativity and encourage imaginative play. Our children always clamor to get out their Bramble Box to play with.  The crafting is only a small part of the fun, as the completed sets get used over and over (many are food-related and become part of our play kitchen at home).  I’m sure these instruments will be heard around our home for quite a while – just last week we played Birthday Party all over again from last month!
