The Birchbox Limited Edition Sunny Side box is here! A promised $170 value, this box is curated with summertime essentials.
This box is $58 and available for a limited time from Birchbox! I love the cute decorated box for this one.
We’ve been trying to fit summertime into a box for ages—and we finally accomplished our mission. Inspired by carefree afternoons and long weekends, this collection comes with sunny day essentials (think: durable sunglasses and a Turkish cotton beach towel), plus summer-ready products to help you channel your inner beach goddess. Hello, sunshine!
The card details all the items in the box and lets you know the benefits of each one.
Everything in the box!
Supergoop! Everyday SPF 50 with Cellular Response Technology ($7.92) First up fan favorite Supergoop! Almost half-size and perfect for applying to keep the sun away. It uses chemical sunscreens so for me, face-only, but I do like this sunscreen and do sometimes wear it on my face without irritation.
Living proof. No Frizz Humidity Shield ($14) I love that this is travel size so I can take it with me by air to an exotic, humid location. Looking at the reviews I don’t think it will combat massive frizz, but it will probably work great on my fine hair.
Milk Makeup Blush Oil in Flush, Crave, or Ripe ($28) I got Flush but any of the three colors are super pretty. The texture of this was funny – it reminded me of Mally’s cream blush, which I like. I like all cream blushes. Despite always using my fingers with them they seem less messy. Instead of a twist, this has a button on the end and once it’s primed there’s a cute rollerball so you can apply it just where you want and blend!
Kopari Coconut Body Glow ($6.18) I really needed this box because of this product. I had to have it. I love everything coconut and gold shimmer. Mine was pretty thick, but I think once it warms up a little it gets thin. It’s extraordinarily sparkly so mix with lotion if you need less sparkle! The product says it has a natural coconut scent, but it smelled exactly like Kai perfume oil to me, which is gardenia-based.
Swatches of the Body Glow and Blush Oil!
Knockaround Mai Tais Sunglasses in Clear/Green Moonshine ($20) I love these! As you may know I wear prescription glasses and have been dragging my heels a little on my LASIK. I decided to get this box as a reminder that I need to get it done ASAP – and yes, I have a drawer of beautiful sunnies just waiting for my new eyeballs.
I *love* the clear frames and rainbow mirrored lenses. I can’t wait to wear them. I’m calling the doctor’s office tomorrow.
Turkish-T Birchbox Stripe Breeze Towel in Teal ($32) We first saw this towel 2 summers ago in POPSUGAR! This time it’s Birchbox Teal. The towel has held up beautifully the last 2 years and gets even more absorbent when you wash it.
I do still prefer these $16 towels (only this seller, another towel purveyor has terrible ones) from Amazon – they’re thicker and cozier, but I can’t pass up any box with a peshtemal. It also works as a scarf/beachy coverup. It’s a giant 36×70 and the thinner design makes it extra portable.
Davines This Is a Sea Salt Spray ($10.80) I actually got this product (and this size!) in a Birchbox a few months ago: “this is nearly half of the full size. I was impressed. And the scent is unusual for a sea salt spray – sort of like beachy vanilla? It’s great! My hair has been super curly with the weather changing and I am using this today to help it along a bit! So far no crunchies!”
Cargo Cosmetics California Throwback Palette ($15-20 on eBay, currently available at TK Maxx – why are there 2 reviews that call it TK Maxx? Because that’s what TJ Maxx is called in Europe) This palette was originally $36 and introduced in 2014. It is no longer for sale through Cargo and is obviously discontinued.
It has a neat magnetic design – each layer stacks on the other one (but I don’t like the faux wear on the faux polaroids – it makes them look dirty!).
Top Right (and in middle of swatches) are the shadows – Windsor, Colombia, Aegean, and Mojave. These are fantastic shadows and I love them!
Bottom Left (and on right of swatches) are powder blush in Rome and Swimmables Water Resistant Bronzer.
As you may be able to tell, the lip gloss is extremely messy! So messy that I don’t even want to restack the palette. I’m taking advantage of the unique magnetic design and leaving the lip gloss off. It’s so squidgy that it’s unlikely to last the week anyways. There’s a reason this palette was discontinued. They are definitely “melted” but do have an amazing opaqueness that’s hard to replicate. I see why they tried it, but put it in a tube Cargo! Overall I like the palette, but I wish we weren’t getting old stock (also note that if you like the box overall, there’s probably a limited supply).
I value the Limited Edition Sunny Side Box at around $146 – $162 if you use the full retail price for the palette. Despite the palette issues I do really like this box, especially for $58! With the sunglasses, towel, and really great beauty products I’m happy with this box! Check out the coupons below and the bonus items I got with my order!
