Gable Lane Crates - Sow & Gather Box May 2016 box

Gable Lane Crates is a monthly subscription box dedicated to make your home decor shopping easier. If your decor veers towards rustic, cottage, farmhouse, urban or vintage, you’ll definitely enjoy opening this box every month.
The subscription is a little hard to grasp – here’s how it works:

  1. Gable Lane pre-announces the box themes. There are two every month, plus special edition boxes.
  2. Sign up for one crate during the announced sale period, or a three box series. (If you can stand it, I recommend waiting for spoilers because if you buy in advance all you have is the name of the box to go on).
  3. Your box will ship during the month you bought it for.

There are two sizes of box –  $49.95 per month for the original and $89.95 for the exclusive. You’ll get a box filled with home accessories and decor to liven up the rooms of your house.

This box is a Sow & Gather Exclusive size. For reference I bought this box on 4/19 and received it on 5/18.

This box was perfect for those who enjoy gardening or want to start their own herb garden. I admit that it’s not really my style – but perfect for my mother-in-law’s new kitchen.

The information card lists all the items that are included in the box and the total retail value.

When I removed one of the items I thought it was funny that the box was lined with printer paper. I think it was a first!

Everything in the Sow & Gather box!

4-Set Small Herb Plates ($14) These match MIL’s kitchen perfectly! They will be great to mix up some herbs and oil for bread dipping!

2-Set Vintage Inspired Tin Cans ($8) These are basic tin cans with pop-tops and reproduction labels. I wish they were a little more durable. Then again, I  wouldn’t display the applesauce one in my kitchen.

Vintage Inspired Black Hook ($19) This is a great hook and has a cute faux vintage style. She has a big row of hooks near the front door and I personally think this would be cute underneath for little ones’ jackets!

Wooden Box of Black Herb Markers ($20)

If you garden already you can probably tell the difference between these herbs – but it doesn’t mean you can’t give the garden a splash of class! They are pretty and will be used. Gable Lane Crates - Sow & Gather Box May 2016 (8)

Cast Iron Trowel With Wooden Handle ($14) While I would never leave out what amounts to a weapon in a house with 3 small kids, I can guarantee that MIL will love it – just her style. Mental note – collect this one and put it away next time we visit!

The Vintage Songbird Gardening Apron ($33) this is a sturdy artisan crafted gardening apron and I love the style! It’s perfect for gathering some herbs to boringn in on your way out the garden!

Hanging Basket ($8)The basket is a cute decor piece that could be functional, go as part of a gallery wall – or both!

Rustic Wood Twine Holder With Scissors ($16) This baking twine is so rustic that the twine is treated with kerosene. My husband says that is not unusual, but it was stinky.

Update: Thanks to Anna we’ve figured this out. It’s baling twine and it’s not treated with kerosene – the natural smell is very similar to kerosene.

It came with a real pair of scissors! His mom will love it!

There were a few items in this box I could see incorporating in my home but really the whole thing is a perfect gift for my husband’s mother. It did leave me wishing I had ordered the now sold out backyard oasis box, but I’m hoping they have extras (FYI – this box is currently available in the Gable Lane Crates shop, but they have only a few extras!). I have serious FOMO with this subscription. I don’t want to miss out but the style is very farmhouse. I really want a subscription just like this that’s modern with a poppish style, although I do love incorporating vintage-ish things in my decor.

I find their products to be way overpriced and JUNK! I received 2 crates recently. One has plate chargers that STUNK (almost had like a BBQ smell…odd!). The other was just hideous, absolute garbage that looked nothing like the spoiler picture (totally different color and everything) and they ignored my complaint. So upset about the amount of money I wasted on their trash!

This box looks awesome. But why would they put kerosene on twine?

i am not sure. i think anna will probably come along and comment. it may not have been kerosene but whatever that smell is?

My husband says it looks like a thicker form of sisal twine. Sisal twine is used on the farm to wrap up bales of hay although we now use a plastic baler instead. He says it has its own unique scent that smells similiar to kerosene. It’s not kersosene although he cannot tell from the picture whether this is true of the one that Brandy and Tom received.

It doesn’t look like the baking twine I am used to seeing.

I trust your husband’s opinion. Tom said something about baling twine too. It’s definitely not for the kitchen. It’s stinky.

I’ve received other products from them that also smelled awful. Not a fan!
