Sweet Latvia March 2016 Subscription Box Review + Coupon

Sweet Latvia is a monthly subscription box that ships a wonderful variety of Latvian sweets straight to you.  Selections vary from timeless classics to trendy new flavors.

The theme this month was Happy Easter, and the information card had a cute Easter Bunny motif.

The card also brings the latest news about Sweet Latvia. According to the information card, the box will also include sweets from other Baltic states, like Estonia and Lithuania, in their future boxes.  I’m psyched about this, because Estonia and Lithuania are underrepresented in the subscription box sweets arena, and the Sweet Latvia curators are great at finding really unique and delicious treats — it should really tasty!

Other item details are also written on the information card.  The “The Beginnings” brand selection was not macaroons, but it was something even cooler instead.

Everything in the box.  The packing material was cute — brightly colored like Easter straw.

Ricberry Friss Berry Chewing Candy: This sweet, chewy little bar had a powerful dose of mint.

Ricberry Bamba Sea Buckthorn/Plum Berry Candy:  Slightly tangy, but still very sweet, the fruit in concentrated form takes on a candy-like taste and texture.

Ricberry Bamba Blueberry/Cherry Berry Candy:  Sweet and chewy, with a deep berry flavor from the familiar ingredients.

Ricberry Lolo Jums Ogao Sokolade in Milk Chocolate:  Rich milk chocolate topped with a heaping helping of dried fruit and berries.  This is made for Brandy, as she loves Cadbury Fruit ‘N Nut bars.

Ricberry Lolo Jums Ogao Sokolade in Dark Chocolate:  A darker version of the bar — I love that the curators included three varieties instead of randomly grabbing one.

Ricberry Lolo Jums Ogao Sokolade in White Chocolate:  My favorite — I’m a sucker for the white chocolate, and the lighter, creamy flavor lets the fruit really come through.

Karameļu Darbnīca Ginger Candy with Honey:  These weren’t listed on the info card, so they are either a bonus or added to make up for the swapping of the cookies.  The ginger is nice, and not overly fiery.  The honey really comes through.  A pleasant hard candy to suck on (or crunch).

Jankalni Blueberry Marmalade Candy:  A beautiful, soft jelly candy with an intense, and intensely sweet, blueberry flavor.  Similar in concept to orange slice candies, but with a more delicate texture and more natural flavor.

Seklu Muss Soft & Chewy Sugar-free Granola Bar:  This is more of a “no sugar added” bar than a “sugar-free” bar.  It has tons of dates and cherries, plus some agave, for sweetness.   It is much softer and chewier than one would expect from a granola bar — it almost has a Paleo type texture.  A generous drizzle of dark chocolate covers the bar.

The Beginnings Black Currant Cookies:  These wafers comprise blackcurrants and what I believe are sesame  and pumpkin seeds, creating a bar that is halfway between a crunchy sesame bar and fruit leather.  It has a nice chew and bit of crunch, with an intense currant flavor and color!

Free Latvija Band:  This rubber bracelet came as a bonus.

This is a fun subscription with really tasty selections.  There were lots and lots of berries in our selections, and I’m not sure if this was a reflection of everyday Latvian tastes or was connected to the theme of the box.  Either way, it was an assortment of candies different from any I’ve had in a box, and it was great.  I can’t wait to see what Estonian and Lithuanian treats show up nest month.
