loot crate dx april 2016 box side

Loot Crate DX is a brand new monthly subscription box from Loot Crate. It’s themed with the regular Loot Crate spoilers, except it contains premium next level loot for discerning geeks! It’s like a special edition box from Loot Crate – every month!

I think maybe the outlined box was originally going to be for the label, which was on the reverse of this box. It was a big box – bigger than I’d expected!

I liked the classy style of the packaging, and was somewhat relieved I didn’t have to turn another box inside out during my unboxing.

Everything was packed in beautifully, and the 20 sided dice even had a little cardboard stand protecting them from the art print underneath.

The bottom of the box says cheers!loot crate dx april 2016 review

Everything in the initial box. FYI – I learned that Loot Crate sent a Loot Crate DX box to the initial founding Looters – perhaps about 75-100 people that have stayed subscribed since the very beginning. I thought that was crazy awesome!

The box comes with a tri-fold booklet with a short note and information about Loot Crate’s community features. Check out the theme experience hub here.

And the information for all the items!

QUEST Pin: This is a high-quality enamel pin that combines a compass (it doesn’t move – that would have been awesome!) with the Loot Crate logo. Are you on the right path?

I can’t tell you enough how giant this pin is – it covers my entire palm. I wish it had said Founder instead of April!

loot crate dx april 2016 adventure time figure

Exclusive Kidrobot Glow-in-the-Dark Adventure Time Puff Jake ‘n Lil’ Finn Figure: This is a 6″ figure and nearly impossible to value – but I found another limited edition 6″ figure (Bart) on the Kidrobot site for $59.99! And I recently got an email that the LE Sketracha figs are back, which I cannot bring myself to purchase, even though I want one. The point is, that these large exclusive figures from Kidrobot are pricey! If this isn’t your franchise, I suggest keeping it boxed and reselling it.

The original (colored) version of this sold for $49.99 so I think the $60 estimation is right.

The entire box was well designed. Kidrobot does everything right.loot crate dx april 2016 IMG_9452

Sayings from the show are on the flaps.

Here they are out of the box! Jake can be anything for his best bud.loot crate dx april 2016 IMG_9455

Excellent glowing action too – after only a few minutes unboxed!

Almost forgot his backside. FYI – the sword isn’t removable, but cool. Love that little tail 🙂

Exclusive World of Warcraft Lowball Glasses ($30?) Lead-free crystal glasses. The information card took care to note that these aren’t dishwasher safe.

The crests of the Horde and the Alliance! These are weighty and high quality, and should last a long time. Even if you’re not a WOW player they look really cool and fit nicely in a geek home!

loot crate dx april 2016 zelda hoodie

Exclusive Legend of Zelda Jersey Hoodie ($25?) A nice soft hoodie with the Hyrulian crest on the upper chest. I subscribed with a men’s size large (women’s sizes are also available – and I’m not sure if this also came in a women’s cut) so my husband and I could share.

Here’s the placement of the crest.loot crate dx april 2016 back of hoodie

And there’s a giant crest on the back! I loved this item – it looked super sweet, and I am sure the black pleased many geeks, including myself. This hoodie is pretty similar to the Space Invaders hoodie from Level Up, which Loot Crate is currently selling for $23.

Exclusive “Even Dragons Have Their Endings Print” by Miguel Membreño ($15?0 This print came in plastic with a paperboard behind it to keep it safe. The artist frequently provides illustrations for Loot Crate and is based in El Salvador.

“So comes snow after fire, and even dragons have their endings.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

This is printed on a unique sort of iridescent paper. I wish Loot Crate had provided more information. This is a cool print, but I wish it was bigger than 8×10. The problem with getting prints in boxes is they all tend to be pretty small. Good for a geek gallery wall?

Exclusive D20 Chilling Dice ($30? The soapstone version of these is $20) The information card was funny and said every drink can be a Constitution Check with these!

They’re awesome! Be sure to use your commonsense instead of rolling the dice to see if you’re actually drunk.

This was a great box! They promised over $100 in value and I estimated $160, although I feel like that overvalues the items in the crate by quite a bit. I loved everything for $50 a month but I’m not going to tell you that it was really $160 worth of stuff – it’s just a result of estimating exclusive items. They could have gone lots of different ways with the theme and I’m not sure yet if the franchises they chose for the box were the right way to go (deep cuts vs broad appeal). The items were certainly upgrades, but I can’t say that I liked this box more than the April Loot Crate, which was one of my favorites! That being said, if you’ve been a long-term Loot Crate subscriber you might be ready for some different stuff. Or more, like me!

I just open mine, and I loved it. After 8 months of the original Crate and 3 of Anime I have to say that this has been (in my opinion) the best. It feel like a step up in quality, that is to say nothing felt like a trinket. I could see this replacing both Crates’ subscription for me.

I’m psyched that you love it!! I keep on getting jealous of the Loot Anime stuff (which Sara reviews, because she’s totally on point on all things anime). I put up the Music crate spoilers yesterday and totally wanted everything in that box (but I admit – it’s kinda super girl friendly). Ultimately a lot boils down to the franchises, and Adventure Time & WOW really aren’t part of my personal geek universe. It’s very difficult to separate your own geekery from the quality of the items, which is why we have nice pretty pictures to look at 🙂
