Gentleman’s Box is a monthly men’s subscription box – including the required essentials for the savvy man. Each month includes a copy of GQ, which is delivered separately to subscribers. Boxes contain selected items ranging from style to grooming. Whereas past honorees were typically male archetypes, they now tend to be actual individuals.
Each box includes a copy of “The Gentleman’s Post,” an expanded-format booklet filled with cool stuff. This month is dedicated to “Our Favorite Superhero,” honoring Superman. He’s an individual!
The Post includes a new curator’s letter, information on the inspiration, the contents, details on every item, the Gentleman’s Tip for the month, and an interview with a Gentleman’s Box subscriber. I like this format — it has a nicer look, and the content makes me appreciate the items more.
The Gentlemen’s Post has a description of every item in he box, so no additional info card is needed.
There are also tips on how to wear or use the items included in the box. I noticed that they even incorporated an item from last month, the pocket square, in the outfit.
A short comic strip is included in this issue, as well as a little quiz about your personal style!
Here’s everything in this month’s box except the copy of GQ ($6), mailed separately to subscribers.
Frey Detergent for Men ($6): Safe for all washables, Frey is a masculine alternative to fresh and flowery scented detergents. With a hint oak and musk, this detergent leaves clothes with gentle scent. Suitable for h.e. machines.
Gentleman’s Box Eye Glass Tie Clip ($20): A clever and unique accessory. Instantly recognizable, it attaches with a hinged clip and adds a nice conversation piece to your outfit. If you happen to also be an optometrist or opthamologist, this clip is money!
The Fashion Anchor ($6): Any guy that wears collared shirts with any frequency knows what a pain collars can be — they frump, fly-away, and crease oddly. This problem is especially bad with polo and other soft-collar shirts. These little tabs hold your collar firmly in place without collar stay inserts (think of them as the men’s version of those sticker bras women wear with poorly-conceived ball gowns). They are also disposable and come on a sheet like glue dots.
This tie clip really looks cute!
I love the classic dot pattern on this tie, as well as the rich blue color.
Knot Society Navy Polka Dot Tie ($30): The microfiber material gives the tie a smooth appearance and stiff feel. It’s medium width and has a sharp-looking lining and tag to hold the tail in place.
Here’s how it looks when worn by a lady friend. The pattern is angled just enough to give the tie some movement.
Wolf Clothing Co. Laven Socks ($14): Smooth and comfy, this mid-height, medium weight dress sock is a perfect complement to the tie in this month’s box. The color is more blue than it appears in the above pic, in which it has a slight purplish hue. The fun part about this sock is that it looks like a very conservatively-patterned dotted dress sock when worn in the office, but the whimsy of the pink accents can be shared with those that see you with either your shoes or slacks off.
Gentleman’s Box is very consistent with its quality and focus — all the items this month were well-made and very wearable. I like the continued effort to match the color and pattern of pieces to help create a coherent look — the “how to wear it” feature in the booklet (shown earlier in this post) even demonstrates that the curators are attempting to match some patterns and colors across different months, a bonus for long-time subscribers.
The total value was roughly $82, which is pretty amazing for a $25 box!
