eSalon’s Custom Color service provides individual hair color, crafted just for you, with personalized instructions for an easy at-home application.  The advanced formula is developed by renowned master colorists with high-quality ingredients for rich, long lasting color and superior gray coverage.  A single application of eSalon’s Custom Color is $24.95 per box; however, you can save 20% ($19.95) by enrolling in the auto delivery service.  My account is set up with an 8 week interval between deliveries; this can be changed for more or less frequency.  Orders can also be skipped, if desired.  Try your first box for $10!

Before selecting your color, eSalon has you complete a hair profile to get a better understanding of your hair (condition, color desires, texture, etc.) and information on your skin tone and eye color.  This helps to customize a color that complementary to you.  

Everything comes packed in a molded plastic tray – no rattling around during shipment.  Even the instructions and color are personalized with my name.  I feel so special!

Everything in the color accessories kit – shampoo & conditioner, 2 pairs of gloves, stain guard, and stain remover.

My color selection was Darkest Brown Natural Golden.  If it sounds familiar, it is.  The last time (my first time) I used the Custom Color service, it was for full coverage.  This kit is basically a root touch-up/color boost with my customized hair color formula.  I wanted to try a different color, but forgot to update my profile.  It’s all good because I like my color.

I behaved and followed the directions.  I started by parting my hair into 4 sections and putting the Stain Guard around my hairline.  Then I added the color to the developer and shook until it was well mixed.  This looks like it would be a very light color, but it’s not…

My selfie game is not strong, so I didn’t take any shots of me waiting for the color to develop.  After 30 minutes, I worked the remaining color from my roots to ends before rinsing everything out.  That was followed by a shampoo and condition using the Heart Lock It Shampoo  and Love Unconditionally Conditioner.  You can read my review of these products here.  

After I got out of the shower, I used the Stain Remover to clean up any dye still on my skin.  And voila!  Here are the results:

Ignore the crazy bird’s nest in the before shot.  I forgot to take the picture until after I had brushed my hair out to section it.  Anyway, you can see that the color was lighter and had some brassiness to it.  And even though this was more of a root touch-up, working the remaining color through to my ends (even for that brief period) made a huge difference in my hair’s tone.

I would have to say that this was another eSalon success.  With summer coming up, I’ve asked the colorists at eSalon to lighten my customized shade up some.  Stay tuned to see what turns up on my head.
