IMG_3140 (2)This month’s package arrived well-packed with a BookCase.Club birthday card displayed prominently.

IMG_3141Once I removed the birthday card and the packing paper, I was greeted by a delightful collection of illustrated children’s books. I called my son to come join me. He was so excited to read them!

IMG_3142The package contained four picture books, in addition to the birthday card: “The Adventurers” by Rachel Elliot, “A Wolf’s Tale” by Eva Montanari, “My Brave Year of Firsts: Tries, Sighs, and High Fives” by Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell and “The Remarkable Rocket and other silly stories” by Miles Kelly.

The BookCase.Club birthday card included some fun activities for my son to complete when he gets the chance.

“The Adventurers” ($18.02) is a delightful story of the adventures that can happen when you let your imagination soar. In it, a young girl leaves the confines of her toy room, and, with the help of her toys, embarks upon a series of journeys to far-off places. As soon as danger arrives, she and her toys imagine they’ve been swept off to a different place where new adventure awaits. The illustrations are gorgeous. Developmentally, this book was perfect for my four year old. We had a lot of fun reading it.

“A Wolf’s Tale” ($6.99) is an allegory that brings to mind deep-seated multi-generational conflicts the world-over. In it, the wolf, a descendant of the Big Bad Wolf, tells a story about how he tried to do something nice for the Little Pigs, but because of what happened between the Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf generations before, the pigs ran away in fear. Once he was finally able to bridge the divide between them, they all became friends and lived happily ever after. I enjoyed this book very much. Again, I think it’s the perfect book for my four year old. It makes him think deeply and ask important questions whose implications are profound, all while harkening back to a story that is very familiar.

“The Remarkable Rocket and other silly stories” ($8.95 list) is a collection of modern-day fables, some of which I enjoyed more than others. Messages included “think of others,” “be humble” and “don’t be too trusting.” I liked how the author illustrated the book with doodles all around the pages. This reminded me of medieval manuscripts. It seemed apropos for a collection of stories that are reinterpretations of an old style of story telling.

“My Brave Year of Firsts: Tries, Sighs, and High Fives” ($11.48) describes milestones made by a young child over the course of a year in a fun, whimsical way. Milestones include the good and the bad, such as going to school, riding a two-wheeler, telling a lie, diving off a big rock into a lake and getting the flu. In the end, though, those who experience them are “brave, true, and strong.” I really liked this book. It talks of the perseverance necessary to master many milestones and the excitement that comes once a child has mastered them. This is a great message for my son! The illustrations are fun and energetic and the use of bright colors makes them exciting and happy.

I really enjoyed this month’s Read to Me Case from BookCase.Club! All four of these books were new to us, and we will happily read them again and again. Each book was engaging and included great, age-appropriate messages and themes. This was a real win for us. We can’t wait to see what they send next month!
