I picked the Strange Worlds case!

I received 2 hard  back books in the fantasy genre. The books were cushioned with paper to keep the covers from damage. I did not receive an insert in my box . I have started reading both of them and I am totally into them. I am switching each book out every other night.

The Word Exchange by Alena Graedon ($23.03 on Amazon) is a book right up my alley as I am always complaining how the English language has gone to pot. This is a novel about the dangers of technology and of the enduring power of the printed word. It is a mystery also. I am enjoying it and I know my fellow nerds will too. There are even foot notes at the bottom of some pages. How our English teachers would be proud. LOL! This book retails for $26.95 and it is so far well worth it.

A fiendishly clever dystopian novel for the digital age, The Word Exchange is a fresh, stylized, and decidedly original debut about the dangers of technology and the power of the printed word.

In the not-so-distant future, the forecasted “death of print” has become a near reality. Bookstores, libraries, newspapers, and magazines are essentially things of the past, as we spend our time glued to handheld devices called Memes that not only keep us in constant communication but have become so intuitive as to hail us cabs before we leave our offices, order takeout at the first growl of our stomachs, change traffic lights and interface with home appliances–even create and sell language itself in a marketplace called the Word Exchange.

The next book is Shattering the Ley by Joshua Palmatier ($20.84 on Amazon). This is a fantasy novel. It is about two people who live in another world where war is going on between 2 political parties. So far so good but I haven’t gotten too far. The author is also a mathematics professor. This book retails for $25.95. 20160418_221950

Erenthrall—sprawling city of light and magic, whose streets are packed with traders from a dozen lands and whose buildings and towers are grown and shaped in the space of a day.

At the heart of the city is the Nexus, the hub of  a magical ley line system that powers Erenthrall. This ley line also links the city and the Baronial plains to rest of the continent and the world beyond. The Prime Wielders control the Nexus with secrecy and lies, but it is the Baron who controls the Wielders. The Baron also controls the rest of the Baronies through a web of brutal intimidation enforced by his bloodthirsty guardsmen and unnatural assassins.
