Wake up, Winter Bears!
Our mission this month is to get you geared up (literally) for the big spring clean, and maybe even…excited for it? For starters, let’s do some re-framing. Forget tedious chore and think sanctified ritual—you certainly wouldn’t be alone in doing so.
In Iran, for example, the March 21st vernal equinox signals the new year, and involves the tradition of “shaking the house” — use your imagination. And in China, sweeping the house at the new year is considered a way of sweeping out any bad luck that may have accumulated in the past one.
No matter where you are in the world, the opening of tiny new buds in spring suggests a chance to start fresh. We hope the items in this months box help you to invite a sense of spaciousness into the home in which to nurture whatever fragile, fledgling life you find winking and hopeful beneath the pile of last year.

Our family looks forward to the GlobeIn boxes. J, age 7, loves learning about the items and where they are made. We found India on the world map and read about Coyuchi.
The item for the April Benefit Basket is the Coyuchi Woven Dish Towel Set. That’s right! It’s a towel SET!
GlobeIn Signature Palm Leaf Basket from Oaxaca, Mexico ($12) is a beautiful basket using the traditional “tenate” design. The baskets are made by Don Juan and his family who live 5 hours from a city. Each basket takes up to six hours to make. I will be using this basket as I reorganize the linen closet. I’m always amazed by the vibrant basket colors.
The information card provided a few facts about organic cotton. I’ve been aware of the issue surrounding cotton for the past few years and been concentrating on buying organic cotton when available.
The Coyuchi Woven Dish Towel Set (S15.00) is made from 100% organic cotton from India. The towels measure 16″ x 24″. I was surprised to see two because I did not pay close attention to the spoiler. I thought it was going to be one dish towel.
I love the diamond pattern and the color. It breaks up the towel and adds a little excitement when drying dishes by hand. That’s what I am going to tell my 17 year old dishdryer! We do not have a dishwasher. The horror!
The philosophy of “nature come home” and how that translates into providing textiles to create a sanctuary is an idea that captivates me. It is also a great selection for Earth Month! We will be using the towels to dry dishes or clean up spills.
We always enjoy our GlobeIn Boxes. April’s choice of a dish towel set is an excellent selection for Earth Month. The 100% organic towels are beautiful and will be used. It’s great to have a matching set although we used them too quickly to keep a matching set out. One of these days I will have a house that has a matching set displaying, and then I will be missing the days when the boys made a mess!
