Whimsy Mail and Putter Pails is a Canadian subscription box aimed for tweens aged 8-12. Whimsy Mail is geared for girls, and Putter Pails is for boys. This is a review of the Whimsy Mail box, because I may be in my 30s but I’m young at heart. Whimsy Mail ships in a plain cardboard outer box — this month’s box was so long I couldn’t fit the whole thing in the photo! — and is packed with brightly coloured paper squiggles. So many squiggles.
The end of the box featured some colourful tropical duct tape, and a nut warning. Curiouser and curiouser…
March’s theme is For the Love of Travel, and Whimsy Mail has put together a very cool box around the theme.
The product information sheet is bright and simple, and includes details on everything in the box.
Kikkerland Clothespin Clip Light ($7.50 USD) I love everything by Kikkerland — it’s so quirky but functional, too. How awesome would this clip light be for using as a book light — just clip it to the pages! This is such a handy thing to have.
DIY Putter Journal Whimsy Mail has included DIY projects in the boxes I’ve received so far. This one is actually a kit to make your own Midori/Fauxdori style travel journal! I briefly skimmed the instructions, but the bristol board cover of the book is covered in the pink fabric, and the included cord is used to wrap around the spine to hold the included pages in. They included pretty sequins and beads and even the glue! There’s also a pocket to glue into the front to tuck a pen or some stickers into for chronicling your adventures.
Luggage Tag This is adorable! The map print is laminated and includes a very cute key charm. The luggage tag itself isn’t laminated, and probably won’t survive too many long trips without wear and tear, but I think this is so pretty. The leather and lace cords are a nice touch.
Scratch Map ($25.00 USD) This is what made the box so long! This is a scratch travel map, and it’s also the original travel map (apparently there are a few companies that make them). It’s a large poster of the world with the countries covered in gold foil — like a scratch & win lottery ticket. You scratch off the gold of the countries you’ve visited, and make your own personalised travel map! I opened it to take a peek — it wouldn’t lay flat long enough for a photo of everything.
It’s pretty detailed in terms of landmarks — they label all of our northern islands!
Snacks! I love snacks. These are rice treats that are gluten free, so I was able to enjoy both. The berry blast one was my favourite. These are Envirokidz from Nature’s Path.
March’s Whimsy Mail box has been my favourite so far! The scratch-off map is such a neat idea — even if I’ve only ever been to three countries. I loved the DIY activity and think it’s such a great idea! I love opening my Whimsy Mail to see what creative ideas they’ve put together, and this box is great for the demographic and even beyond.
