The customized box included a handwritten information card.  I had to squint a lot to read this – I wish it had been printed out. I need reading glasses!

Everything in my customized box!

The box included this great custom pouch! I liked it!shtrands march 2016 IMG_6682

Abba Gentle Shampoo with ProQuinoa Complex ($34) Wow that’s an expensive shampoo! This one is made with soothing aloe vera and cherry bark and is a 100% vegan and sulfate free product. It was perfect for my fine hair and sensitive scalp (that I mentioned in the profile). It’s gentle enough to use daily, which is also perfect for me. This was a great match to my profile.

Abba Voume Gel with ProQuinoa Complex ($18) I was a little bummed to get hair gel, since I said I didn’t use styling tools. The manufacturer says “Shields hair from heat while adding texture, dimension and flexible hold on limp or fine hair.”  The information card said that this was perfect for me because I don’t have any tools. Not bothering to style one’s hair is markedly different from not having tools! I typically shower at night, so I will use sea salt sprays or very light leave in hair lotions as my styling product. I also never clean up my part (all stylists swoon to the floor in agony over my wash and go routine…). I’m sure with feedback that they would find the right product for me, because I loved everything else!

Tela Beauty Organics Conditioner – Harmony ($28) I was so impressed with the ingredients list on this conditioner! And so is Tela – they print it all over the bottle. Tela’s products are “Paraben Free, Sodium-Laureth Sulfate Free, Resin Free, Water Soluble, No Harsh Detergents, No Build Up. Gluten free.” And I could tell the difference – it was so silky and so gentle (even for a conditioner) and packed full of moisturizers, antioxidants, strengthening proteins, super fruits and anti-irritants. I loved this!

This conditioner is designed to restore aging hair, and I guess that fits the bill now (sob) – I also noted my thinning hair on my profile.

Nioxin Diamax ($14.50) This product increases the thickness of each strand, and the Shtrands ladies gave me complete instructions on how to use it (I’ve been using it on and off for a few years and it’s a great product!).

My box had a really huge value – $94.50 in really high end products that were really selected just for me. And I have to say that I loved this box (except for the gel, which I really won’t use). After just one wash my scalp felt so much calmer and less irritated and it was clear to me that my previous products had to go! And finally, everything selected had very light natural fragrances, which is perfect for me, because I can be sensitive to fragrance! The questionnaire was complete and thoughtful.

    Hi Brandy,

Thank you so much for your honest review. Sorry for the styling gel. Many times the stylists don’t follow exactly what’s on the bottles as they are trained by the brands and they recommend how to use based on their experiences with the products. The gel can be used for styling on damp hair and air dried afterwards, or the same way you use the leave in lotions.
Happy you liked the regimen overall!

Oh yes for sure! My scalp feels great and I have really nice volume! I love the products. I am sure most women aren’t as lazy as I am with their hair styling. I also have the “benefit” of having such fine thin hair that it dries super fast. Obviously it looks better if I actually do it but that’s my own personal issue that I don’t!

I hadn’t heard of this one before. It sounds interesting. Although I just spent $150+ on Alterna and Phyto anti-aging hair products (I’m 38) plus a biotin supplement so maybe I should wait a few months and use some of the stuff I have before subscribing…

      Hi Ragan,
Thank you for your interest in Shtrands. I am the founder of the company and if you are interested, I wrote some articles on if we really need micronutrients supplements for a healthy hair and also one of “Why I am not a fan of the “anti-aging” term 🙂 . Im older than you. 🙂
As per biotin (vitamin H), biotin deficiency is rare because it is also produced by intestinal bacteria, but when it happens, it is reported to cause dermatitis and hair loss in experimentally induced states. Biotin improves hair density in people with alopecia.
It has not been sufficiently shown that additional supplementation of biotin in patients with normal blood levels can improve hair quality. So, unless you were diagnostised with low biotin levels, the supplements will not have an effect (no scientific studies show that). You might be better off with a spray with biotin.
