Each box contains five handmade snacks. Shipping is free, and discounts off the regular $24.99/month price are offered to those who prepay for either 3, 6 or 12 months at a time. IMG_2349I was very impressed by how well the box was organized for shipment and how inviting everything looked as soon as I opened the box.

The box even came with a handwritten letter thanking me for joining the club! The letter was written by Sean, the Founder and CEO of the company.

The theme for this month’s box was Meet Us. Each of the snacks in this month’s shipment was created by a different member of the Rising Sun Snack Club team. The stories behind the inspirations for each snack were included on the backs of the snack packages.

IMG_2355March’s box contained the following snacks: Glory Days Munch ($5.99), Acoustic Trail Mix ($5.99), Smoked Cheddar Sriracha Kornels ($4.99), Deconstructed Peanut Butter Cheesecake ($5.99) and Curry Raisin Nut Mix ($5.99). Although you would save some money over the retail price for these snacks by joining the month to month club, you would save even more by prepaying for a longer membership. (You can also save on the snacks by buying in bulk.)

IMG_2369 (2)This snack is decadent. It’s a perfect snack for those times when you’re craving candy. Made with candied peanuts, peanut butter energy bites, mini peanut butter cups, yogurt covered peanuts and peanut butter frosted cookie bits, it’s sweet, soft and crunchy, and absolutely delicious. My son immediately declared it his favorite. Then, when I wasn’t looking, my daughter got ahold of it and thrust it into her mouth happily. Ah well, so much for the no candy until she’s older rule!

“In this month’s challenge, I was going for something simple–something everyone knows–and transform it into something upscale. Peanut Butter Cheesecake is one of my favorite desserts and I’m proud that we could add this mix to our deconstructed dessert line of snack mixes!” –Chef Matt Webb

IMG_2370 (2)This snack was, hands down, my favorite. When I was in college, I would often walk across campus to the Architecture school just so I could eat their curry chicken salad. It was divine. This snack tasted just like that curry chicken salad, minus the chicken. I couldn’t get enough of it. I finished it the day it arrived. When I reorder it, I’m thinking about just mixing in some chicken and calling it lunch. Perhaps I can serve it with a side of dried apricots. The snack was produced with curry, cashews, raisins, pumpkin seeds, pecans and coconut.

“I curated this snack based on an old favorite dish of mine. I’ve always loved the unique flavors of Chicken Madagascar and am excited to bring out those flavors in this delicious mix. Enjoy!” –Chef “J”

IMG_2367 (2)This trail mix was delicious as well. Composed of maple-glazed almonds, dried plums, dried blueberries and banana chips, this scrumptious snack was designed to provide optimum nutrition on the trail. It is, hands down, the tastiest trail snack I have ever had. The maple-glazed almonds are a home run. On any other month, either this or the Deconstructed Peanut Butter Cheesecake would have been my favorite snack. It’s just hard to beat a snack that evokes strong and wonderful food memories.

“As an avid hiker, I wanted to craft a delicious, nutrient-packed yet simple snack. My Acoustic Trail Mix is ‘stripped down’ to only four intentional ingredients. I hope this snack serves you well on the trail, in the office, or wherever you need a tasty balanced snack.” –Brandon

IMG_2366 (2)While I enjoyed this snack very much, it wasn’t quite as special for me as the three previous snacks were. Still, it was yummy, and the honey-glazed gluten-free cereal addition was a nice touch. Evidently, the people behind Rising Sun Snacks agree. This lovely mix of Brazil nuts, almonds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, papaya, raisins, cranberries, apples and cereal is the inaugural offering of their new “Munch” line of organic cereal based snacks.

“When we decided on the ‘Meet Us’ contest, I knew I would choose a baseball snack. In my high school baseball career, I had plenty of time on the bench and bus to fuel up in case it was my turn to swing for the fences or strike out the side. This snack is a spin-off of one of my favorite bench mixes. While I wasn’t the star of the team, looking back that time can only be described as glory days!” –Co-Founder & CEO Sean Adams

IMG_2368 (2)This last snack was my least favorite of the bunch. There was nothing wrong with it, but it didn’t do much to excite me either. It was very crunchy and tasted strongly of toasted corn with a little cheese and a hint of sriracha.

“I love toasted corn! As a child, I found toasted corn in downtown Manhattan while on auditions. We would always try to find the market with those delicious corn kernels. So, there was no question that the trifecta of toasted corn, cheddar cheese and sriracha would be featured in my snack. Enjoy!” –Co-Founder Jessica Adams

These snacks were absolutely delicious. As an extra bonus, they’re produced with many organic ingredients and all of them are 100% GMO free. Although available in stores in the mid-Atlantic region, they are not available near me outside of their website. While you could purchase the packages individually, subscribing month to month will afford a small discount over individual bag purchases. Prepaying for a longer subscription will offer even more savings. If you like delicious homemade snacks made from whole food, GMO-free (and lots of organic) ingredients, this subscription is for you.
