It’s magic time! Kiwi Crate is a kids’ craft and activity subscription and it comes with everything you need to complete two great projects, usually a pair of crafts that can be used as toys or playtime props. This box is geared for ages 3-7, and the projects are always age-appropriate, though some require more parental assistance than others. Kiwi Crate is the most popular craft and activity subscription box for kids.
Kiwi Crate includes all necessary supplies for the featured activities, plus explore! magazine. You really need very little from home to do the crafts. Usually, you only need a pair of scissors (which is sent to you with a new subscription!), but often the pieces are pre-cut, scored, or otherwise prepared for you already. The crate includes self-adhesive items or glue/glue dots if needed for the crafts.
All the supplies for the this month’s theme: Magic!
Each issue of explore! magazine features a short comic, experiments and puzzles or picture or word find type games. Every issue has a comic featuring Steve and his pals sharing an adventure that fits this month’s theme. It has additional information and crafts and activities you can complete with household supplies to keep the fun going.
explore! has read, draw, learn, explore, eat, and make designated activities. Each activity is an extension on the theme of the box and include factoids, drawing activities, and even recipes. For parents, the activities are also a great way to keep your child entertained while you peruse the contents of the box and take a peek at the instructions for the crafts (it only takes a peek — they are always very clear and simple)!
As always, we received a new Steve the Kiwi sticker to add to (or near) our poster.
This month’s activities involves doing some magic tricks and illusions. The activities require low to medium grownup involvement.
Here’s our kids trying out the mechanics of one of the magic movement tricks, the disappearing coin.
Practice makes magic tricks perfect! And less obvious to the watching audience.
Magic and math can also be learned at the same time. The kids can make “magical predictions” by doing some math tricks.
Here are the activities that will definitely trick your eyes. The instructions are simple and used easy gathered household materials.
Take a look at this simple illusion. Our kids draw these in two separate card boards. Together, they make a neat magic view trick!
Voila!
The box included a whole set of “Magic Movement” tricks using static electricity or mere illusion to move objects without touching them.
Our son is enjoying making the confetti move.
As well as making this bunny come out of the box.
Our daughter can’t help but try the same magic trick!
The kids performed their magic tricks in front of a wowed audience — dogs and mice alike were collapsing from sheer amazement!
We always have a blast with Kiwi Crate. The theme for this box was a sure-fire hit, and the kids really got into the magic tricks — they had to show off their new tricks to everyone! The activities and instructions are generally very simple, but the kit always includes some factoids and extension activities that keep our older child interested.
