March marks the first month of GlobeIn Artistan Gift Box add-ons! GlobeIn Artisan Gift Box is a monthly subscription box full of artisan goods from producers all over the world. GlobeIn sources its products exclusively from non-profits, artisan collectives and other organizations that ensure a fair wage is paid to the artisans and farmers.
March is the perfect month for a Dr. Seuss quote! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss.
The theme for March is Memory.
Memory goes backward and forward in time. As in, “Remember that time we…” and “Don’t forget to…” Memory encapsulates our nostalgia for the past, our plans and dreams moving forward, and those pesky little to-dos that will get us there.
The booklet contains the story of each artisan featured in the box.
It’s the second month in the row where not all the items fit inside the basket. I like that GlobeIn does not feel constrained by the size of the basket and is willing to include larger size items.
GlobeIn Signature Palm Leaf Basket from Oaxaca, Mexico ($12) The color of the basket is gorgeous. J, my 7-year-old, has big plans for this basket involving treasure! The baskets are made from palms that are dried, painted, and then weaved.
The Weekly Planner by Marie Mae Co. ($15) is an undated planner designed by Ewurama in Ghana. The Marie Mae Business School in Rwanda provides students one hour of training per product sold. I am going to use the planner to either teach T (age 17) goal setting or to keep track of everything involved in sending him to college in the fall of 2017.
The Wooden Photo Frame ($15.00) from Turkey is a beautiful well-made frame from by Celebi Erturk’s family business He and his family also teach craftsmen the trade so they can open their own ateliers. I love the simplicity of the natural grain giving the frame a little character. I can’t wait to put a picture in the frame.
The Wooden Pencil Cup ($15.00) from Turkey is incredibly smooth. Arifi works with other craftsmen to preserve the ancient handicraft. My husband spent time looking it over trying to locate the seams. He couldn’t find them. The pencil cup is beautiful in its simplicity.
The Elephant Poo Bookmark ($3.00) is a beautiful blue color. The bookmark is from the raw cellulose from their dung. It has no smell. Mr. Ellie Pooh reimburses farmers for crop damages caused by elephants through its sales. T, age 17, loves elephants and will be using the bookmarker.
This box is still available until it’s sold out! The total value of this month was about $63. The family loved the March box. It’s an enjoyable way to create and save memories. I love the wood items this month! One of my favorite things about Globein is that we are making a difference in people’s lives and communities. There is that connection of knowing the story and the people behind the product.
