gymbag february 2016 unboxing

GymBag is a monthly fitness and workout subscription box.  Every month you’ll get 6-8 macro-friendly snacks, supplements, gym accessories, apparel and more, with an $80+ retail value. The box comes with orange tissue, which is a nice touch for a more utilitarian subscription!

This box ships at the end of the month (or at least for reviewers). The February theme is “Bulking Season,” where all the gym goers prepare to get cut.

The back of the curator’s letter had the retail value for each product, and a bit of information about each. The values add up to $79.03, which is close enough to $80 for me. Note that in this subscription a significant part of the value arrives in the form of a pricey supplement.

METRx Big 100 Colossal Bar – Peanut Butter Pretzel ($1.69)

MusclePharm Combat Crunch – Cinnamon Twist ($2.07)

These are both giant protein bars, with 30g and 20g of protein respectively! They are really truly meal replacement bars and perfect for on the go protein-centric meals.

Buff Bake Chocolate Chip Protein Peanut Spread ($10.99) This is pretty exciting – it contains both chia and flax and 11g protein per 2 tablespoon serving! I don’t think it would be too much to say that it’s an excellent replacement for the peanut butter cups I’ve been indulging in far too frequently! It’s delicious too!

CreAde Lemon Lime ($24.41) This is a creatine lemon lime drink. I don’t have any personal experience with it but plenty of serious lifters and competitors use it to increase their performance.

The Protein Bakery – Black & White Brownie and Peanut Butter Blondie ($9) Thank goodness there were two of these protein brownies so my husband and I didn’t have to fight! Gluten-free and made with whey protein, they are very tasty! What a find! I love protein brownies and these were really good.

Mutant Pro 100 Old-Fashioned Vanilla Milkshake Flavor ($6.99) This powder mixed easily and was super tasty! It’s a combo of Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate, and Hydrolyzed Whey Protein.

Coco Protein Coconut Water & Protein Drink in Piña Colada ($4.17) This is an excellent recovery drink with both protein and electrolytes (from the coconut water). It’s also gluten and lactose free (despite being “colada”) and I noticed several of the products were marked gluten-free too.

The box also came with a monthly quote and a playlist (maybe some Spotify inspiration?).

All together I came up with about $59 actual retail value, which is a bit of a savings on the monthly price, and pretty good vs the MSRP value – not to mention that products bought through Amazon sometimes aren’t as fresh and have quality issues, so if that quality/freshness is important to you, you might value it closer to $70 or $80 like you would get in the store. I thought this month was well balanced with a variety of protein shakes, bars, goodies, and even some coconut water.
