California Wine Club February 2016 Review & Coupons

California Wine Club is a monthly subscription that sends two (or more) bottles of wine from California to your house every month. They specialize in wines made from small producers (those who produce less than 10,000 cases produced each year). Although they have five official wine clubs, they are happy to provide their customers with a club that is specially curated to their customers’ needs. In fact, club members receive their own Personal Wine Consultants who can help tailor the club to meet their needs.

I was very excited to receive my first shipment of wine! I subscribed to the Premier Series, which costs $39.95/month plus shipping. If you love the bottles that you receive, you may order additional bottles from the club at a significant savings. Right now, any 6 bottle or 12 bottle shipment receives shipping for just $1.

This month’s shipment included a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine, a sale catalog for those interested in ordering additional wine, a pamphlet including information about small wineries and earthquakes and tasting notes and information about Bell Town Vineyards.

I enjoyed reading through all of the information they sent. I especially enjoyed the article about the steps that wineries take to help insure their wines survive the inevitable earthquake.

The California Wine Club wants to make sure its members are happy with their purchases. They include a scorecard with every shipment to make sure everyone loves the wine they send out. If for some reason a member is unhappy with a shipment, they can call California Wine Club to receive a replacement. All shipments are 100% guaranteed.

This month’s selections were both produced by Bell Tower Winery. I enjoyed reading about the two selections and the wine maker who produced them. Since Bell Tower wines are typically available only in restaurants, for many people (myself included!), receiving the bottles through the club is the only way to try these delicious wines.

Bell Town’s 2012 Central Coast Pinot Noir ($27) was a special treat! For the price ($13.99 for reorders!), it could not be beat. Although it does not have a huge nose, it tastes of luscious plum that continues to develop as the wine sits in the glass. This medium-bodied wine possesses a beautiful garnet color in the glass.

Bell Town’s 2012 Central Coast Chardonnay ($23, on sale for $11.99 for reorders) is a well-balanced crowd pleaser. Containing some but not too much additional malolactic fermentation, the wine is very smooth yet not overly buttery. It was aged in stainless steel and French Oak with notes of apples and pears discernible in the nose and on the palette. Although I typically drink a Chardonnay without any induced malolactic fermentation, I drank this wine happily. It is my favorite Chardonnay at this price point. Were I to host a brunch at my house, this is the wine I would want to serve (especially if I could get them at $11.99 a bottle with $1 shipping!).

I’m thrilled with wines I received this month from the California Wine Club and look forward to receiving many more in the future!
