Beautycon Box Spring 2016 box

Beautycon BFF is a quarterly beauty and lifestyle subscription box that is aimed at the teen and young adult market.

Beautycon Box Spring 2016 unboxing

Each box features a different celebrity curator, and with Bunny aka Grav3yardgirl curating this box, it was a must have (plus I have an annual subscription!). Love the doll theme! Bunny is super weird and I love her – plus she loves all mystery bags, boxes, etc! A must watch!

Haaaay!

This box is packed full – Beautycon is a huge brand and definitely able to negotiate a box crammed with items.
Beautycon Box Spring 2016 review

Everything in the Spring 2016 box!
Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (2)The information card provides a listing of the items. The theme is Spring Essentials!

Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (3) Dolls Kill $20 Coupon: You can tell already that there’s a weird doll theme, which is fun! Don’t get weirded out by the name – there’s all sorts of fun items (including Care Bears on the home page!). The terms are pretty clear on this one – doesn’t apply to shipping, one card per purchase, and any unused balance is forfeited at the time of redemption. Expires 8/01.

The offerings can be adequately described as club wear, and as such, some of them are relatively racy, just FYI, especially moms of tweens and teens subscribing for your girls!
Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (5)

Murad Essential-C Day Moisture ($11.65) There was a Murad product in last quarter’s box, so subscribers might expect to amass a little collection, if you haven’t used it all up already! I do find this brand a little odd for the box (I think it’s targeted at a different market – and that’s where curators’ notes would definitely help). This product is an antioxidant rich chemical (opposed to mineral) sunscreen and there are a few complaints about it being not great for oily skin, but overall looks like a good product.

GLAMGLOW YouthMud Tinglexfoliate Treatment ($22) I’m always excited for more GLAMGLOW! This helps resurface and exfoliate your skin and is an (expensive) product that I use all the time. My skin feels so smooth after!  Hey does this thing really work? Yes it does!

Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara ($8) I love Benefit! This isn’t my top fave mascara but the small size is good to tote around, and good for layering!

Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (6)

Pacifica Power of Love Natural Lipstick ($8.99) I was thrilled to find that this lipstick wasn’t smelly like the one that arrived in ipsy bags a few months ago! I received Nudie Red in this 100% vegan natural minerals lipstick. Full size!

Beautycon X Grav3yardgirl Tie-dye Hair Ties (~$5) A set of super pretty hair ties! Swampy too!

Here’s what the swatch looks like – I love the dark nude color – it’s a nude that I can gladly espouse (regular nudes just wash me out!).

Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (10)

Garnier SkinActive Purifying Oil-Free Cleansing Towelettes ($5.99) Yay for towelettes! These promise to cleanse, remove oil, and mattify – they’re perfect for upcoming warm months and I always need more towelettes. These are infused with charcoal but there’s no bits and they’re totally white.

Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (11)

NCLA Grav3yardgirl Designer Nail Wraps ($16) Grav3yardgirl’s design picks are totally a mix of various images and iconography that are so her –  flowers, buildings, snake skin, dolls, swamp/water imagery, and more. I think these are really cool and probably the neatest nail wraps I’ve ever received in a subscription box!
Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (9)

NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray ($7.99) I’m really seeing the curation come through – how else do you get your face through swampy weather without mattifying makeup setting spray?!

Beautyblender Micro.Minis ($18) 1/4 the size of the original BeautyBlender, the minis are perfect for inner eye corners, brow bones, sides of nose, and cheeks. I haven’t tried these before and they are amazing for blending and setting under-eye concealer, which I use all the time for my terrible circles. Love them!
Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (12)

Beautycon x Grav3yardgirl Keychain: So odd and so Bunny! This is intriguing (if not a little batty) in its own right and sure to be a huge collectors’ item!

Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (13)

The little card tells about Grav3yardgirl’s love of antique dolls – this is a replica of one of her faves. I love the message – “Most of her dolls are worn and imperfect as a reminder that imperfections and flaws are beautiful.”
Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (14)Maybelline NY The Rock Nudes Palette ($9.99) Yay a full-size palette! I think all the colors are wearable yet still a tad edgy and it’s up to you to experiment with them!

Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (15)

Some great neutrals and also some super sparkly colors.  The shades aren’t super pigmented and there’s quite a bit of fall-out, so I think these are best for testing new combos rather than for all-day wear, but they may perform better with a good eyeshadow base, which I didn’t test them with.

Beautycon Box Spring 2016 (16)

The value of this box was about $114 plus the Dolls Kill Coupon + the antique doll keychain! This is pretty amazing and it’s easy to see why this box sold out! It looks like they’ve sourced more boxes and will ship out a second wave starting April 15, so if you want in on this one, it’s best to grab it now, because I think they’re close to selling out again.

I was really happy personally with most of the items, although not all of them seem really on point for the market Beautycon primarily targets (teens and young women) – which may not be exactly the same as who’s buying this box!  I do think it’s amazing that Beautycon pretty much went all in with the Bunny curation, even though the items weren’t necessarily targeted at the young adult market.

FYI – everyone should know that this box has a really funny cancellation policy – you can only do it within the seven days after you receive your box (for annual members you can do it any time before it renews).  Especially important to know for a box that’s so curator specific – although there’s plenty in this box to make pretty much everyone happy because the total cost with shipping is only $36.
