Batterbox is a monthly subscription box that includes ingredients and recipes to make delicious desserts. It is designed to make baking fun and crafty, with a specific dessert theme each month.
Each Batterbox contains all the materials you’ll need to bake, like flours, sugar, cupcake liners, piping bags, and even decorations. The decorations are based on a theme, depending on the holiday or season.
Recipes are also included, and they can range from pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies and other baking treats. The recipe card is split between items included in the box, and those you’ll have to supply — expect to contribute eggs, dairy, and fats.
Here’s how everything looks like after unboxing.
The Batterbox recipe this March is the classic vanilla cupcake, and the ingredients and materials included in the box are all-purpose flour, sugar, confectioner’s sugar, yellow cupcake liners, and vanilla extract. The recipe listed salt and baking powder in the ingredients list but these were not in the box.
For the decoration, there are three boxes of blue Peeps, electric green food color, piping bags, and almond eggs (Jordan almonds).
The recipe is very easy to make, even the kids had fun making the cupcakes. Here, we scooped out a spoonful of cupcake and tucked a few eggs into each nest.
The cupcakes were delicious and very appropriate for the season. The recipe made twelve cupcakes, and there was plenty of decoration material to dress up all of them (plus a few extra Peeps)! (We saved decorating the second half for the next day!)
We thought this was a really cute idea for cupcakes. Like many baking kits, this did not include butter or dairy, only dry ingredients, vanilla, and decorative items — the focus is on concept and convenience. We had a great time making the cupcakes as a family (eating them wasn’t half-bad either), and, most important, the kids were eager to get involved and help with the baking and decoration. We thought the end result was more fun than some other baking subscriptions, but it was also more expensive, and wondered if a decorations only subscription wouldn’t be a better model for this box. Unlike some of the other decorations-only boxes we liked that there was a specific end result in mind and not just an assortment of themed decorative items.

Are they licensed to send food items like the pre-packaged ingredients? The handwritten labels don’t look too professional……
My husband LOVES peeps and he loves cupcakes! But this might be a little too much work for me. I guess I could always buy a cupcake mix rather than backing from scratch though. Still, the “grass” icing will be tricky for my non-crafy self. They’re so cute though! I might have to try.
The cupcakes are adorable!
