Moustache Coffee Club Subscription Review + Free Trial – February 2016

Moustache Coffee Club  is a coffee subscription featuring freshly roasted single origin beans that are shipped the day they are roasted.  They feature certain roasters that appear quite frequently, but with different offerings (and always good quality).

Moustache Coffee Club offers several different plans, depending on your coffee demands, as few as a bag a month to as many as one five-pound bag every week.  You can get your first bag free by signing up. You may cancel anytime and if you don’t like the coffee you can get a refund or double the coffee.  I have not yet had to use their refund policy.

 Mustache ships its coffee in sealed bags (they would be hermetic, if not for the specially-designed vent), so the coffee is always fresh from the roaster when it arrives — the bag is also resealable to maintain the freshness.

I received Finca Calera from Metepan, El Salvador  The beans were roasted by Healing Coffee Roasters.

Moustache includes notes about each coffee on the bag. Here: notes of vanilla, almond, grapefruit & pineapple.

As always, their tasting notes are a good summary of the major flavors.  The vanilla and almond are not pronounced, as the main note of this coffee is a vaguely nutty and warm note.  The most distinctive and pronounced flavor is the grapefruit.  After the initial sip, a bright, sour note develops — it has a clearly grapefruit taste, but it is surprisingly complementary.  When cooled a bit, the pineapple note comes out a bit more.  This wasn’t one of my favorites, but I enjoyed the uniqueness of the flavor profile — the pronounced grapefruit flavor lingers after an otherwise very mellow cup.

The note sometimes contains some general info about the coffee — but all the pertinent tasting notes and detailed information about the beans is included on the bag itself.

These beans are slightly smaller in size than average and are medium roasted.  When ground, they had a bit of a bitter smell that didn’t show up in the brewed coffee.
