Silly me – I adjusted the dates of my Fix around the holidays and ended up with some lag time between fixes.  That being said, it was worth the wait! I am really happy with most of what came in this month’s fix!

Stitch Fix is a personal styling service. Your stylist will send you 5 pieces based on your profile for you to try on at home! There are no coupons for Stitch Fix but if you hit the jackpot and keep everything, you save 25% on your whole fix (read below for details).

Here’s how Stitch Fix works: fill out your style profile! This includes style, budget, what you’re looking for, and you can get as detailed as you want with the notes to your stylist. It really really does help to provide notes to what you’re seeking, and a Pinterest board if you have one.  You will be charged a $20 styling fee and shipped five items to try on at home. If you keep anything your styling fee will be applied to your order, but if you don’t, you will pay the $20 fee. This is so worth it. If you keep everything you get a 25% discount, so it pays off to be specific. You will check out and get charged through your Stitch Fix account. Every box includes a set of styling cards with suggestions on how to wear the particular item. There’s usually a dressed up and dressed down version for each piece of clothing.

Stylist note

See how nice the stylists are?  During my last fix I was pretty unhappy about the size choice on a pair of jeans (a problem which persists in this fix – see below), but I appreciate that the stylist acknowledges it.  This time around, I love four out of five pieces, so I think the feedback I have sent on previous fixes is making a difference.

Laila Jayde Banna Hooded Open Cardigan – $58

Laila Jayde Banna Hooded Open CardiganI have been asking for a green cardigan, preferably kelly green, but it seems to be that no one has one.  This cardigan is a lovely soft teal, actually very similar to one of my favorite shorter dressier cardigans. As noted by my stylist, it is quite long, so it helps to be tall to pull it off.  It is a bit longer in the front, has pockets, and it a really nice thing soft waffle fabric.  The hood makes it pretty casual, so I am still debating if it is a keeper, since I would prefer it be able to switch between casual and dress use.

Market and Spruce Mori Henley Top – $48

Mavi Freida Skinny Jean – $98

I paired these because the top is long enough to cover the fatal flaw of the jeans! First, I really like the henley style top. I don’t love the floral pattern, but I don’t hate it, and I do really like the colors.  The boy was nice enough to say he thinks it looks like a maternity top (to be fair, I tend to wear form-fitting knits, so this is a departure). He did not, however (very wisely) say that I look pregnant in it.  I do not think I do, and I considered keeping this, but after seeing other items in the fix (and trying to be fiscally conscious!) I decided not to keep it.  If the exact shirt showed up in a different pattern, there is a good chance I would keep it.

Now for the jeans.  Oh, stylists, how I appreciate that you think I am at least a size smaller on my bottom than I am. I have lost lots of inches on my legs working out (I lost over 2 inches of circumference on my thighs in under 2 months) but almost none on my waist. I was able to pull these on, and even to button them, but only with my stomach sucked in far more than can be expected in the normal course of a day.  Prepare yourself for the photos…

Mavi Freida Skinny JeanTo be fair, this isn’t totally on the stylists – the jeans are allegedly a size 16, and I can usually wear a 16 on the bottom. Other than the fact that they were at least a size too small, these jeans are actually pretty much exactly what I want – dark grey or olive green skinny jeans that are long enough.  I even like the butt pocket placement, which is a particular pet peeve for me (usually they are too small and too high on larger size jeans, which just makes the rear view seem even bigger).  Maybe if I can keep up the weight loss, these will fit in a few months.  Until then, they go back.

Christiana Textured Pencil Skirt – $78

MargaretM Christiana Textured Pencil Skirt

I love this skirt! The material is a medium thickness, stretchy, figure-flattering marvel. I think the cut works well for my curviness, and the length is great for my height (5’10”). The skirt is listed as navy, but it reads more like a black. The pattern is great – adds some interest without being too busy. It’s a pull-on (no zippers or buttons) and it was nice on the tummy – no muffintop, doesn’t sit too low. The only reason I am not keeping it is I have almost zero work travel for the next few months (which means I am wearing jeans and t-shirts – no complaints here!), and I just can’t justify the price when I may have lost too much weight by the time I would wear it.  If you want a packable, super comfortable, but flattering skirt, ask for this in your fix.

41Hawthorne Montgomery Cross-Front Knit Top – $48

Love it! As the boy put it, the pattern is interesting, but not too distracting.  This top is a stretchy jersey that will go well between casual and work.  I plan on wearing it tomorrow with jeans and flats, but it is also going to look great with a dark denim skirt I wear for work trips.  Keep!     41 Hawthorne Montgomery Cross Front Knit Top

Price Sheet

I think most items in my fix were reasonably priced (although, I wish the skirt were cheaper – even though it is amazing, it feels pricey given how simple the construction is). If my jeans had fit, this might have been the time I kept all five, since I liked everything else, and with the discount, it would have been affordable.  That being said, I am not disappointed at all with what I am keeping!
