PlowBox is a new quarterly gardening subscription box! Every season you’ll receive organic, seasonally, and regionally appropriate seeds, a fun gift and extras, and expert planting advice! PlowBox comes from a real seed company – Seattle Seed Co!
I thought it was lovely when I opened it!
The winter has been so weird! Despite that PlowBox has curated a box perfect for your winter planting needs. The letter doesn’t detail the seeds included (the planting instructions are separate) – it’s more an introduction to the box and some prompts to get your gardening thoughts thinking.
Included are two fold out planting instructions for each of the 12 different seeds in your box!
Good Nature Notebook: This notebook has a sweet floral scene on the outside, some flower quotes on the inside cover, and grid paper for all the planning you’ll do during the winter!
The box also included a letterpress re-gifting card, noting that if there’s just that one seed you will not and cannot plant, send it along! What a cute idea, and practical, too.
What are you planning for your garden? Mine needs some help!
A lavender sachet was included.
The lavender inside is Washington-grown and organic! It smelled great – my best friend stole it for a craft project, and who could blame her?
Broccoli and Kale Microgreens: If you are unfamiliar with how to grow these, you just sprinkle them on the top of soil in a shallow container, and harvest in 7-10 days! Microgreens are pretty fancy and like sprouts, I personally believe that they’re best grown at home, so this is a nice addition to the box. Just snip to harvest! Really anyone can grow them indoors, which makes them also perfect for winter greens.
Each quarterly PlowBox includes 10 packets of Seattle Seed Co. 100% organic non-GMO seeds! I love the simple and direct packaging!
Included: Green Arrow Peas, Evergreen Bunching Onion (I guess green onion!), King Richard Leek, Detroit Dark Red Beets, Common English Thyme, Buttercrunch Lettuce, Tall Utah Celery, Italian Large Leaf Basil. The total value of these seed packets is approximately $35.
The backs of the packets have full directions.
And the included information card had a color coded sheet. I think it would have been helpful to have them arranged by “plant this first,” especially for winter. However, none of these were for immediate planting, which I think is a good thing. Most gardeners take a pause right about now and chart out their gardens and figure out what to sow and start seeds indoors (especially in more northernly climates like mine!). I’m pretty excited to have some seeds that are for as soon as frost is over, and I will be planting them for sure! Celery is one of my favorites and the variety they sent is stringless! Two of the seed packets were herbs, although the thyme is a nice spreading variety. We already have quite a bit of it in our yard, and I will be sprinkling more on for sure!
The Winter PlowBox had some really thoughtful extras for gardeners, and a whole host of must-have seasonal seeds! I really enjoyed everything about the box, including the packaging and the cute re-gifting card!

This box is pretty neat. I might have to get a box when I can afford to get subscription boxes again. I like that they have organic nonGMO seeds. I loved the whole box.
This box looks wonderful. We are in zone 5 and are in the planning stage. It will soon be time to start our seedlings indoor.
I googled into Zone 6. I do like this box too. Not that much of a green thumb but will make an attempt to see if I can get a plot of a community garden this year. Otherwise will attempt to do a little condo garden with my wee ones. I want to buy a couple of tilly (aka air plants) there should be a subscription box for that and terraniums I would totally go for that.
that’s a great idea!!!
