Little Loving Hands is a monthly subscription box that contains a hands-on craft idea for children to make while learning about and supporting a philanthropic cause. One very unique and noteworthy aspect of this box is that the crafts your children create are sent to the highlighted charity – you get to spend time crafting with your kids without accumulating too many crafty items.
The box arrives neatly packed with all needed materials. The decor reinforces the charitable inspiration of the box.
This month’s Spotlight Organization was Ronald McDonald House Charities, a charity that provides a home-away-from-home for families of sick children in hospitals. In addition to providing room and board for sick children’s families, Ronald McDonald House Charities also provide both mobile care vehicles that bring medical care to sick children and family rooms in hospitals nationwide.
In consultation with Ronald McDonald House Charities, Little Loving Hands developed this adorable snowman foot and hand warmer as January’s craft. Filled with rice, children can warm their extremities with their trusty snowman after throwing him in the microwave for a few seconds.
The box contained all the necessary components to make a darling snowman. Along with the craft materials, a prepaid envelope is provided for shipping the completed craft to the Spotlight charity by way of Little Loving Hands.
Instructions are included to keep your craft on track.
Reinforcement questions review the purpose and importance of the Spotlight organization and the kids’ contribution.
Once completed, the kids get a certificate of achievement evidencing their contribution.
My son had a lot of fun making his snowman. He was happy to use his cutting skills to help other kids’ families.
Filling the sock with rice led to surprisingly little mess. I’m sure the 1/8 cup scoop will come in handy later in my kitchen.
Decorating the snowman was especially fun!
This was one of my son’s favorite all-time crafts. He especially liked the idea that he was sharing his creation with a sick child’s family.
My son chose his favorite gift tag – the mitten – to send to the families at Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Finally, we placed our adorable creation in this postage-paid bag. How easy! I love how at the end of our crafty day, we get to send away our finished product to help families in need.
We think this box has a really great concept. It teaches kids about charity, while providing a great activity and opportunity for reflection, learning and growth. It’s also very cool that at the end of the activity, you get to send away the completed craft – an anti-clutter measure that is much appreciated in our crafty home. My son loved creating something special for families who will appreciate it.
