loot crate january 2016 box

Loot Crate‘s theme for January was INVASION.    Loot Crate is the original subscription box for geeks & gamers. Every month you’ll get awesome geeky items curated around a central theme. One of the things I love about this box is that it’s only $20 per month – a super affordable geeky fix with a subscriber base so gigantic that every box is full of really awesome geeky items – many of which are exclusive to this subscription (and not just oh, it will be released later – actual exclusive items you’ll only get in this box!). Every Loot Crate box in 2016 will have a shirt!

All the items in the January box!

Every Loot Crate box comes with the mini mag and the monthly button.  There are interviews and fan stories inside the magazine, as well as details on all the products.

Loot Crate announced a few months ago an improvement on the mags. Although they didn’t really carry through the first couple months after that, this month’s magazine saw more features.

Kidrobot Facehugger Plush: This is exclusive to the box, but is really cute – way cuter than an actual facehugger! It came with a rubber band, that until you read the magazine, was sort of inexplicable, but you can use to attach it to your face.

I took a selfie with said facehugger attached, but the particular anatomy of this item just made it look obscene, so I skipped it.

“Ahhh mahhh face”lol. Love this face hugger from my lootcrate! #lootcrate #loot #myface #nerd

There’s plenty of insta-folk that really rock the facehugger. One of the things I love about this item is that it made for a really fun shared unboxing experience!

And here’s the new LootPins! It’s an awesome enamel pin – Lootcrate is going all out with these!

Beginning in January 2016, Looters will see a new and improved collector pin in every crate! Each pin unlocks something epic, but you’ll need to go to Lootcrate.com/pins to unlock the surprises!

You will need to login to your Loot Crate account to redeem the item. Since we work with various partners to bring you something Epic each month, the method of redemption will vary slightly month to month. Each month’s digital download is tied to your subscription, if you did not have an active subscription for a month you will not have access to the digital download.

You can unlock bonus loot in your Loot Crate account – I hear it’s a Comixology code.

The X Files LED Flashlight (and batteries!): Wow, if this isn’t a perfect item for this week, I don’t know what is! Having an extra flashlight is always handy when snow is barreling down on you, plus it arrived in time for the premiere.

And it works!loot crate january 2016 IMG_4713

The Fifth Element Prop Replica Multi Pass: MULTIPASS! A huge hit for any Fifth Element fan! You can insert your ID card in the little plastic sleeve and shove it in, though I’m sure some enterprising folk will remove the plastic grey parts from the multipass and affix it to their own cards to create true Multi Passes (this is what I would do if I was still stuck in Lanyard-Land). Otherwise it will make a cool hang thing in your car or a perfect cosplay accessory.

Space Invaders Mini Alien Vinyl Figures: Love this, it’s fun, cute, and totally my favorite colors, too.

The War of the Worlds and The Day The Earth Stood Still: Not really my thing, but very nicely done, and I’ll pass them along to a friend who’s totally into these movies (I’m more of a modernist). I do like the nod to the classic invasion-themed films.

Exclusive Threadless X-Files Shirt: This fan-created artwork was selected to be in the box this month! I hope they do more of these (and hint to all the other boxes – this is the way to do a shirt when you don’t have the licensing rights to the subject – in this case they didn’t have the rights to the likenesses of any characters). This is a really great design.

January was a fun box – the curation was a bit all over the place, but probably something for everyone to enjoy (although I hear the youngsters may not have watched The Fifth Element, and if you haven’t, please do!).
