 It says

Great choice! Bohemian Gospel will cast its spell on you – a wonderful, enthralling read that will hold you until the very last page. And when you’re finished, don’t forget to look up the Codex Gigas (the Devil’s Bible”) – the history behind Bohemian Gospel is fascinating.

THAT got me interested! I forgot to add on the other books I was interested in, but you can add books from previous boxes to the next month’s box (you just have to wait until the selection window opens if you already received your box).

book of the month january 2016 bohemian gospel

Bohemian Gospel by Dana Chamblee Carpenter

Set against the historical reign of the Golden and Iron King, Bohemian Gospel is the remarkable tale of a bold and unusual girl on a quest to uncover her past and define her destiny.

Thirteenth-century Bohemia is a dangerous place for a girl, especially one as odd as Mouse, born with unnatural senses and an uncanny intellect. Some call her a witch. Others call her an angel. Even Mouse doesn’t know who―or what―she is. But she means to find out.

When young King Ottakar shows up at the Abbey wounded by a traitor’s arrow, Mouse breaks church law to save him and then agrees to accompany him back to Prague as his personal healer. Caught in the undertow of court politics at the castle, Ottakar and Mouse find themselves drawn to each other as they work to uncover the threat against him and to unravel the mystery of her past. But when Mouse’s unusual gifts give rise to a violence and strength that surprise everyone―especially herself―she is forced to ask herself: Will she be prepared for the future that awaits her?

A heart-thumping, highly original tale in the vein of Elizabeth Kostova’s The Historian, Bohemian Gospel heralds the arrival of a fresh new voice for historical fiction.

I didn’t even notice that the book summary compared this one to The Historian, but I guess I was drawn to the same subject matter. I hope this is a quick and fun read!

Most books I have received include a bookmark. Also, after you read your book, you can rate it and there is a discussion feature on the site.

I think the premise of this subscription is cool, and it’s a great way to discover some new books inexpensively – way less than Amazon, and the books they select are all new hardcover releases. The monthly price is $12.99 per month, $8.99 per month on a year long subscription, but you can get just 3 months for $26.97 – $8.99 per month. Use code BOOK15. Sign up by the 15th to pick a book for January and get reading!
