Doodlebug Busy Bags is a monthly subscription service that sends fun seasonal crafts to my home. Each Doodlebug Busy Bag contains 4-8 crafts that help my son develop his fine motor skills, creativity and confidence. This subscription service is run by Kidable Adventures, who also produces the Little Thinker Box. My son loves the themes of the easy-to-assemble crafts, and I appreciate the tips contained on the detailed instruction sheets. New subscribers receive a nice big red bag, perfect for holding lots of beautiful Doodlebug crafts!

Every box contains neatly organized bagged crafts along with any other supplies that might be required, such as glue dots and magnets. A general overview of all the crafts along with color pictures of the finished crafts is provided as well. This month’s theme was Christmas! Each craft comes in individual bags, which is nice, as the bags keep each craft’s parts contained.

The six crafts in this Christmas collection were ordered from easy to more difficult. The first three crafts required no adult intervention beyond reading the directions. The last three required some adult help.

My son had a lot of fun making this cute Santa door hanger.

He enjoyed tearing off the backings to individual pieces, and I appreciated how the craft encouraged development of his fine motor skills.

Next, he worked on the Christmas train ornament.

IMG_0888

This craft was perfect for my son as it brings together two of his favorite things: Christmas and trains. He was transfixed. When he finished, he held up his new ornament proudly.

We were on a roll. Next up was the gingerbread man ornament.

IMG_0891

The gingerbread man utilized the same skills as the previous two crafts, but this time, many of the pieces were smaller. My son enjoyed the challenge.

After finishing up the gingerbread man, we tackled the jingle bell wreath.

IMG_0890

My son strung the jingle bells on the pipe cleaner.

IMG_0999

This was a little tricky as it required the pipe cleaner to be angled up. Otherwise, the pipe cleaner would get stuck in the bell. After stringing the pipe cleaner, we decided to make some changes to the wreath: instead of cutting off the extra pipe cleaner and affixing the bow and ribbon with glue and letting the whole thing dry, we simply tied the ribbon to the pipe cleaner and made a loop out of the extra pipe cleaner to create our ornament. No glue gun required!

The last ornament of the bunch was the founder’s favorite: the wreath.

IMG_0894

Although a very attractive craft, we found it somewhat difficult to get the paper loops to stay put on the plate frame, especially the portions of the frame that were not flat. As a result, we did not use all of the paper rings that my son had made. Still, our wreath turned out well. My son especially enjoyed decorating the wreath at the end.

The final craft of the bunch was the reindeer stable.

IMG_0897

This was fun to assemble.

IMG_0912

Although there were lots of components, putting them on was a snap as many of the steps repeated themselves.

IMG_0919

The end result was so lovely that we decided to use it as the centerpiece of our dinner table.

To conclude our fun crafty day, we hung the five hangers/ornaments on our Christmas tree.
