The b0x was totally packed with snacks.  Most were individual servings, but a few were larger sizes.

Taiwan Treat Box November 2015 review

Everything in the box!

Etime Brown Rice Matcha Milk Tea:  Traditional Taiwanese milk tea, but made with brown rice and flavored with matcha.  This is instant tea, to be mixed directly with hot water.

Tradition A Li San Oolong Tea:  Oolong tea is partially oxidized, achieving a character between that of green and black tea.  This variety of leaf is grown in a mountainous region of Taiwan that is known for its high quality tea – the bag notes “Good tea region of Taiwan.”

I have never seen these items before – they look very specific to Taiwan!

Tea Time Darjeeling Milk Tea:  Traditional Taiwanese milk tea, prepared with Darjeeling tea.  Ready to drink, it can be chilled or poured and heated.

Premium Yunnan Aged Tree Pu-er Black Tea:  very earthy black tea in loose leaf form.

A-Sha Dry Noodle:  Prepared and eaten much like ramen, the original flavor pack is seasoned with soy and sesame oil.

Prince Noodles Oodles:  Crispy snack noodles meant to be eaten straight from the bag.  The flavoring contains soy, leek, shallot, and pork — it tasted a bit like a chicken noodle soup seasoned with onion and chive.  The noodles have a nice, pleasant crunch that reminded me or pea-flour crunchy snacks, nowhere were the hardness of raw pasta.  Taiwan Treat Box November 2015 IMG_4659

Rice Flour Crackers:  Three variations on this Senbei-Style cracker.  They are at once sweet, salty, and savory.  The large cracker was drizzled with a glaze, while one of the smaller crackers was flecked with seaweed.

Natural Health Technology Red Date:  Part of this treat is a big, juicy red date.  The other half, which also coats the date, is an incredibly dense and chewy resin-type candy.  Mild in flavor, but really, really chewy.

Green Tea Mochi:  A soft, gummy-type exterior encasing a thick matcha-infused bean paste.

Sanh Yuan Preserved Fruit:  These dried plums are very flavorful — they are intensely salty, but also a bit bitter and sweet.  Apparently they are meant to be sucked on; I made the mistake of chewing one, which intensifies the flavor and exposes you to the hard and crunchy bits of seed or pit inside.  Taiwan Treat Box November 2015 IMG_4663

TK Food Sesame Cracker:  This savory cracker reminded me of the “vegetable cookies” from either Korea or Japan.  They are ostensibly a savory cracker, but they are also buttery and a tad sweet, so they are a bit like a flavored shortbread cookie.

Cookie Selection Choco Roll:  We received Strawberry Pudding and White Chocolate Green Tea flavors.  Each was a crispy, but delicate wafer roll filled with creamy flavored filling and coated in chocolate.  I mangled the Strawberry a bit trying to break it in two (presentation improvement fail).  It’s flavor was hard to identify without knowing what it was supposed to be, but the matcha variety was very clean and identifiable.

Raisin and Sesame Soft Flour Cakes:  These slightly sweet treats have a texture similar to Rice Krispies, but slightly softer.  Each bar has a single raisin, presumably to maintain the proper moisture level, as they were slightly tender.  A tiny bit greasy, they had a taste much like a funnel cake!  Very unique and tasty.

Cadina Texas Fries:  Crunchy veggie straws with a mild seasoning.  I was expecting some spice, based on the moniker Texas Fries, but they taste just like ketchup!

The box also came with a big sticker like the kind on the box.

We thought this box was a great box for sampling Taiwanese snacks.  There was a nice variety of sweet, savory, and drink items, all of which were first-time tries for us.  The quality was excellent, and the value is pretty good, given the modest price and great number of items. This was a really unique experience, too, as Taiwan isn’t heavily covered in other Asian snack boxes, but judging by the box we received, has loads of unique and flavorful items to discover! We thought Taiwan Treat did an amazing job seeking out the most unique items and presenting them in this box.

Taiwan Treat announced just last night that the large boxes will be even bigger! Here are some sneak peeks for December below. Order right away to get a box for Christmas.

Taiwan Mom’s Dry Noodle Brand. Five flavors from left to right: Spicy and Sour, Vegan Chili and Sesame, Shrimp and Green Onion, Sichuan Spicy, and Black Pepper and Sesame. One random flavor in every Taiwan Box. Mom’s Dry Noodle was featured as one of the best Taiwanese Ramens, taking the #3 and #1 spot in 2014.

Hey Song Sarsaparilla. Some people call it Taiwanese Root Beer. Best served chilled. One of our favorites here at Taiwan Treat!

Isabella brand Pineapple Cakes. Pineapple cakes are considered a symbol of fortune, prosperity, abundance in Asian cultures. These authentic Taiwanese pastries are soft, buttery, and filled with a rich a sweet pineapple paste. Make lovely accompaniments to tea or coffee, which is also always included in every Taiwan box.

Large. If it’s not in the review then it’s an oversight on my part.
