Little Thinker Box November 2015 box

Kidable Adventures Little Thinker Box is a preschool subscription box for ages 3-6.  The Little Thinker Box includes four components: Read, Create, Explore, and Learn. The Learn component is divided into three different levels: Head Start, PreK, and Kindergarten. Choose the level that’s right for your child!

Little Thinker Box November 2015 theme

The November theme was Rainforest.  Don’t quote us, but we think they alternate letters of the alphabet with themes.

The box is always packed in a really neat manner — the tissue makes for a nice presentation, and the lesson segments are separated and bagged.

We take the packs apart for photos, but each component is packaged separately, which is great for spreading this box out over your month.  You could do a component per week, or you can work through them all on a rainy weekend.

All the actual instructions plus the parental guidance is included, along with all the supplies! The Read, Create, Explore, and Learn format was designed based on customer and expert feedback.  We like the bit of structure it lends to the boxes — the numerous activities are more manageable conceptualized in smaller bites.

Read

Little Thinker Box November 2015 read
This month’s book was We’re Roaming in the Rainforest: An Amazon Adventure by Laurie Krebs and Anne Wilson. It’s obviously a Barefoot Books book, you can tell by the cover! The book comes with reading comprehension questions/prompts.

The art is fun and lively…

And the prose is doled out in manageable bites, great for early readers.

It’s fun to see each kid home in on a different aspect of the book — our daughter reads aloud, while our son places laser focus on the details of the artwork.

Create

The Create portion of the box had 2 main activities: rain stick craft and snake paper chain craft.

The rainstick was simple to make, but it provided lots of opportunity for creative application of detail.  Self-adhesive foam made the project relatively neat.

The snake was similarly simple, but it took a fair bit of time to make all the loops.

Our youngest thought the rainstick was incredibly interesting (our older son did too!). IMG_4247

The completed snake.  He’s pretty silly looking!

Explore

The Explore segment encourages creative play.  This month the kids made a rainforest accordion tableau that served as a stand up play set.

The kids had fun playing with all the animal characters before we could even finish the craft.

Between the stickers and the figures, we created a very busy rainforest!

Learn

The learn segment brings some additional structure to the theme, focusing the kids on school-style worksheets.  It’s a great tool for focusing the fun in a way that translates well to more formal academic setting.

The activities this month included a letter find, practice of the alphabet, and some coloring activities that reinforced specific letters of the alphabet.

Little Thinker Box November 2015 mom gift

Note from Mom: Love this mom gift selection this month!  These dangly earrings have a great Southwestern flair!

We love this box and all the updates! The new format is solidly organized and well-planned, the parent gift is a nice touch, and most importantly our preschooler is engaged and thinking the whole time we were doing the activities.  We always like to note – reviewers tend to do everything at once, because we have to – but this box is designed to provide activities over the course of the month.  For the average family, however, this box could easily be stretched out.
