Greek Pack December 2015 box

GreekPack is a monthly subscription box sending you the best of Greece! Every month you’ll get 6-8 new Greek goodies sent straight from Greece.  This month had a bit of a Christmas theme, as that is the Winter holiday celebrated by most in Greece.  Our Pack even came wrapped in some pretty wrapping paper.

Greek Pack December 2015 unboxing

You always get some cancelled Greek stamps on the outer wrapper, and the interior is cushioned with blue tissue.  The Christmas theme was carried to the interior with the inclusion of a lovely “Xronia Polla” (Merry Christmas) card!

The card was about more than just holiday cheer, though, as it had some details on the items chosen for inclusion in this month’s Pack.  It also marked the 6 month [semi]anniversary of Greek Pack!

Everything in the December box.

Chocolate Santa:  This big hollow Santa is a treat usually gifted to Greek children by their Godparents.  Made of milk chocolate and molded in the general shape of Santa Claus.

Wrapped Chocolates:  These creamy chocolate covered chocolate truffles come in a festive wrapper.

Tsakiris Trynato Alati:  Salt flavored potato chips.  The very fine waffle cut makes for a very crisp chip with lots of surface area for seasoning and crunchiness.  Surprisingly, these chips were not overly salty, and had a great level of seasoning.

Confectis and Pallas Ouzo candies:  Hard candies with a sweet, but pronounced flavor of ouzo, the traditional Greek spirit.  Ouzo tends to get a bum rap as a flavor, but these hard candies are quite pleasant, with a strong anise flavor with a little twist.

As a subscriber, we received a beautiful gouri, a lucky charm traditionally given among Greeks at the new year.

Central to the gouri is this wonderfully weathered 10 drachma coin.

Kourampies:  This were quite a treat!  Often baked and shared like Christmas cookies in the U.S., these thick biscuit cookies are a shortbread with ground nuts, rolled in confectioner’s sugar.  They have light, buttery crunch and are similar in flavor to a Pecan Sandy, but with a better texture.  Wonderful.

This was a lovely Christmas Greek Pack.  The curators provided a great slice of Greek culture during the holiday season, sharing  both store bought and homemade treats enjoyed in Greece.  Congratulations to Greek Pack for 6 months of success, and wishes for many more.

Wow this month’s box is incredibly lame. Ordered this month based on the previous reviews. The products looked interesting and different in the months previous. We have plenty of hollow Santas and generic Christmas chocolates over here. Every Greek restaurant hands out Ouzo candy, and the cookies don’t look like they are sealed? We ordered this to be shipped monthly for a year as a Christmas gift for a couple who moved to Canada from Greece so I really hope it returns to all Greek specific products (or versions of them like the oregano Lay’s chips). I’m sure they will get a kick out if the card and coin at least.
