Boxwalla January 2016 December 2015 box

Boxwalla is a new bi-monthly subscription. It’s a bit unusual that you can select from one of four themes – natural beauty, artisanal food, international film, or books! In Boxwalla you’ll be able to discover great artisans and artists from across the globe.  The Boxwalla Beauty Box contains non-toxic and cruelty-free products sourced from artisans in the US.

The packaging for this box is absolutely gorgeous. The box itself is sort of like a luxe cotton rag paper covered box. The outside indicates which box you received.

The information card is a letter from “The Drunken Boxwallas” (the content didn’t indicate why they are drunk!) detailing each of the products. The theme for this box is Winter Evenings.

We start the Beauty series this December on a cold Winter Evening with products that will help you slip out of your busy day and slide into the warm comfort of winter sleep. A soywax candle to fill your room with warm, cozy scents, a gently exfoliating face wash to wash the day off your face and help it regain its glow. Cold processed soaps that slow down time in the shower. A gently perfumed handcream to soothe your hands before bed. An unusually effective lip balm that drenches your lips with the goodness of argan oil and blue chamomile.

I was thrilled to see that this box is squiggle-free.

Everything in the December Boxwalla Beauty Box!Boxwalla January 2016 December 2015 soap

Aunt Nancy’s Handmade Soap ($6) Two varieties of this soap were included – Christmas Spice and unscented Carrot & Goat Milk. These bars are cold-processed and do not contain palm oil (the harvesting of which often leads to deforestation).

The carrot soap was really soothing and perfect for sensitive skin, and the Christmas one had a fun and non-cloying winter holiday scent, using fir needle, clove, and cinnamon essential oils for the fragrance.

Boxwalla January 2016 December 2015 exfoliating wash

Lilikoi Living Bamboo Buff Exfoliating Facial Wash ($32) This is a natural gel cleanser that uses powdered bamboo and crushed walnut to provide gentle and effective exfoliation. Chamomile soothes the skin and lilikoi fruit (passionfruit in Hawaiian!) provides a dose of antioxidants for brightening and anti-aging.

Boxwalla January 2016 December 2015 bamboo exfoliantThis is a great wash and was very welcome to my wrecked skin after loads of temperature and climate changes (driving 2 days to Florida and back!). This is an occasional use product for me because the exfoliation is quite effective.

Boxwalla January 2016 December 2015 vanilla

Hurrraw! Moon Balm ($4.29) A night treatment lip balm made with all natural, vegan, raw, and wildcrafted ingredients! It features a vanilla and peru balsam scent and blue chamomile for soothing and calming at night. The avocado, rosehip seed, meadowfoam seed, and jojoba oils in it lend some serious moisturizing power. I loved this balm.

I love the gift box for that hand cream!

Boxwalla January 2016 December 2015 hand cream

Soap & Paper Factory Snow Drop Shea Butter Hand Cream ($10) I was kind of crushed when I received this brand hand cream in my last Birchbox and it was only a small sample. This one was a full-size travel hand cream in gift packaging, and I love it. Vanilla is mixed with bourbon and sandalwood and it’s absolutely divine. I could smell it all day long! The formula is rich and the fragrances are crafted with essential oils.

Boxwalla January 2016 December 2015 candle

Aura Candle Travel Tin – Muse ($14) I love getting a candle in a beauty box, do you? This one has vanilla orchid, tobacco flower, and amber as the notes and it was really delightful. 35 hour burn time in this pthalate-free soy-based candle with a lead-free wick.

This was an impressive first box! It had about $66 in products, all full-size. This subscription is definitely on the pricier side, but the bi-monthly frequency ameliorates that somewhat, and Boxwalla definitely delivered on high-quality and very conscious beauty items.
