Orange Glad November 2015 Subscription Box Review + Coupon

Orange Glad is an gourmet dessert subscription box featuring items from independent bakeries from all across the country. They gather all the desserts and ship them right to you to enjoy. It’s an incredible way to get a sampling of items from gourmet bakers all across the nation.  They must have been waiting for the cooler whether to put together this selection, because there were no bakery items — just lots of toffee, caramel, and chocolate.  Oh, and toffee, too!

This is not actually a theme – every month says “Let the Adventure Begin.” Because every month is a sweets and desserts adventure!

The information card provides details on each treat plus nutritional and allergen information, and the best by date.

Everything we’ve ever received has been perfectly packaged, which is remarkable, because they are all fragile and perishable but the packaging always matches the breakability needs of the treats.  This month was a toffee bonanza!

Studmuffin Desserts Bleecker Street Brittle:   A light and buttery peanut brittle.  There was no burnt peanut vibe in this brittle — it was bright and sweet, with a delicate crunch.

Poisoned Apples Crunchy Toffee Topped Caramels:  The toffee topping flaked off pretty easily — I think it is the interior of the caramel that is the draw.  Soft caramel is paired with praline and a layer of salty crunchy sugar.

Dottie’s Delight Maple Caramel:  Soft and sweet, these little delights are very smooth, buttery, and brimming with maple flavor.

Shotwell Candy Co. Classic Tennessee Toffee:  I’ve had Shotwell caramels before and loved them.  This toffee is similarly an instant classic.  The bourbon doesn’t add a liquor flavor or any alcohol heat.  Instead, you get the sweet smokiness and malt flavors.   It is broken in shards, like a brittle.  The thin bark of dark chocolate applied to the pieces was a bit of a distraction, though, and I actually preferred them without it.

Seattle’s Chocolate Thanks-olate Bar:  This bar had some really outstanding milk chocolate flavor and texture.  The interior is slightly truffled (as in creamy, not laced with fungus), with little specks of crunchy toffee for texture.

This was a truly fine selection of candies.  Brandy is not a big toffee fan, so she wasn’t excited, but I love the stuff, and I thought all the selections were top-notch.  My fav was probably the Shotwell toffee, without the chocolate (which was great by itself flaked off and eaten separately).
