Lick My Dip is a monthly subscription designed specifically for heat-seekers. Every box has a table-sized bottle or the equivalent in smaller samples, as well as two or three super-hot food items. This is not for the faint of heart — everything is really spicy!
This month was Halloween themed and even had some candy!
The card taunts the subscriber, detailing the pain about to be endured.
Everything in the October Lick My Dip box! As promised, we received a table-size bottle, a couple spicy snacks, and a hot pepper- based ingredient for cooking up a spicy dish.
Lick My Dip Cinnamon and Chili Candy: This stuff was great! At first glance, the candies look like nuts dipped in chocolate, but they are actually hard candies comprising cinnamon and chili infused halves. Fiery cinnamon oil provides spicy, intense flavor, and the chilis are a perfect complement, accentuated the cinnamon without overpowering it.
Dr. Burnorium’s Extraordinary Psycho Corn Ghost Pepper Popcorn: A quite enjoyable treat! This snack’s heat is slightly dialed back from the Dr. Burnorium sauce (Psycho Juice), and it’s not as spicy as the nuts we tried last month. Each popped kernel is coated in a light, crunchy sugar shell, giving a bit of a caramel corn feel (but much lighter). The first tastes you notice are actually the sweetness and the big pop of black pepper (quite intense for black pepper). The Naga Joloki builds slowly, but it stays shy of deadly levels and is no more of a killer than the black pepper.
The Twisted Chilli Vindaloo Curry: I am overjoyed to see a British box with a spicy curry in it! This one has a four out of five chilli rating, so I am expecting some heat.
The “Tindaloo” mix comes with a recipe for making it at home.
The powder contains what you would expect — a nice curry and garam masala mix — plus ground chilis as the first ingredient!
Sidekick Screaming Pepper Extra Hot Sauce ($5.87): This sauce has a wonderful creamy texture, so it will cling to foods better than most sauces. It has a great red pepper and oregano accent, creating s0me interesting depth. The pepper used is Carolina Reaper, claimed to be the hottest in the world (I seem to see that a lot, though) — luckily, it is added in a moderate amount (red bell pepper is the first ingredient), so the sauce is spicy and tasty, but not too hot to eat.
A recipe was also included for the Dirty Dexter Short Rib Hash featuring Sidekick’s Hot Tom Spicy Ketchup!
This was a great collection of spicy items. The value is very good for those in England, as it ships free within its country of origin, and I would expect to pay the subscription price for the items at retail. For U.S. subscribers, shipping is about a third of the total cost — consider it the cost of curation. The quality of items is very high and this is more than just hot sauce, and this box unreservedly targets those that are not afraid of the hot stuff!
