All the great products in this month’s box.

Valdezarza Cold Extraction Extra Virgin Olive Oil ($11.95):  The cold extraction process produces a more flavorful oil that better preserves the natural olive flavor because it doesn’t dissipate the aromas through heating the oil.

Antonio Tomas Spanish Bomba Paella Rice ($8.95):  The slow-maturing variety of rice produces an extra dry grain.  This allows it to absorb more liquid than other varieties while maintaining is integrity, and to double in size when cooked.  These qualities make it ideal for use in paella.

La Pescadora Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil ($7.95):  Tuna from the Bay of Biscay is packed carefully packed by this fifth-generation family-owned cannery.

San Lorenzo Extra Quince Cream ($6.99):  Quince (similar to an apple) pulp is jellied into a thick paste for use as a dessert jam.  The texture is the same as the guava paste that is popular in Mexican and Central American cuisine —  the pulp transforms what would be a light jelly into an opaque and textured treat.  Surprisingly not too sweet (the quince must be fairly tart at the onset, since there is a fair bit of sugar in the paste), but packing a great, approachable flavor.

Ines Rosales Sweet Olive Oil Tortas ($5.99):  Crunchy and sweet, these are a great snack, tea/coffee or dessert accompaniment.  Flavored with real Seville Orange, these are handmade from a century-old recipe.

Carmencita Paellero Paella Seasoning ($8.95):  This seasoning gives you the authentic flavors needed to make a great, traditional paella.  Garlic, paprika, and saffron take center stage in the blend, and there are 5 packets included.

Torres Selecta Black Truffle Potato Chips ($5.99):  The intense flavor and aroma of black truffle permeates these crispy chips.  Very crunchy and full of flavorful oil. You wouldn’t know they weren’t fresh chips if you hadn’t pulled them straight from the bag.

I liked the curation for this subscription quite a bit.  All the items were top quality, and they spoke to the food tradition of Spain, while being very tasty.  I also liked the balance of the box, with there being a nice split between treats for near-term consumption and pantry items that will be revisited over time. The value was an excellent $57, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single one of these items at a store, even a specialty one!
