A very light and mysterious offering from Moustache! Moustache Coffee Club is one of the most consistent and enjoyable coffee subscriptions I’ve had. Moustache Coffee Club is a coffee subscription box featuring freshly roasted single origin beans that are shipped the day they are roasted. They feature certain roasters that appear quite frequently, but with different offerings (and always good quality).
Moustache Coffee Club offers several different plans, depending on your coffee demands, as few as a bag a month to as many as one five-pound bag every week. You can get your first bag free by signing up. You may cancel anytime and if you don’t like the coffee you can get a refund or double the coffee. I have not yet had to use their refund policy.
Moustache just recently debuted new bags to keep the beans fresher. The top is resealable, and I like that all the relevant info for the coffee is right on the bag. It’s too hard to cross-reference info cards, etc, before the first cup of the day.
Homacho Waeno from Sidama, Ethiopia, Roasted by Bar Nine. Moustache Notes: plush mouthfeel, berry, peach, caramel. Roasted 9/30. Delivered 10/6.
Though I like having the relevant info right on the bag, the additional info card does provide a nice intro to the coffee. In this case it was some notes on grinding this particularly light coffee.
I find the tasting notes and descriptions to be in accord with my own notes most of the time — the crew at Moustache Coffee Club seems to have a good sense of what notes will stand out to the average palate, not indulging too heavily in minutia that are not detectable to most.
The beans for this coffee are very tiny and roasted a wee bit darker than most of Moustache’s Ethiopian beans. My first try on this was with my French press, and the result was a very light flavored brew, with some berry notes, but not a lot going on. Subsequent runs with my Aeropress resulted in a more potent brew (it consumes more coffee grounds per cup) — I was able to tease out some of the peachy acidity and resulting mouthfeel. Any way you brew it, this bean produces a smooth and delicately flavored cup, but with a fair amount of presence. About the mouthfeel: I tried my potent Aerobrew with some 2% milk, and the result was like I had added cream to my coffee. A tasty, nuanced cup, but a little too shy to make my list of favorites.
